I think the SUV is not the problem in this household.

For the love of...

...what horsehit.

is warning other parents about the dangers of sport-utility vehicles

How about the dangers of carrying little Jr. around in a friggin Yugo?

How about the dangers of operating ANY vehicle and not being aware of what's going on around you?

Ban them!! And lawn mowers, and gas grills, and plastic bags dry cleaning comes in, and can openers because they make a sharp edge on the metal top when you open it.

I think the parents in this case would be better to "warn the world the dangers of complete morons having a motor vehicle of any type and kids."

Think the danger is a dumb azz behind the wheel, not the car.

:dork: Another "it is everyone else's fault, the suv's fault, but of course it isn't my dumbarse's fault."

My hubby and I were chit chatting one day, and our biggest fear is backing over a child.

I just don't understand how she pulled forward and ran over the child.

I think a large percentage of blame should be on the father for not making sure the child didn't just run out of the house. It could have been anyone that hit him, and any kind of car. There is no way the mother didn't see him. She was probably thumbing through the mail or not paying proper attention.

I always have to watch carefully going in and out of my driveway not for my own kids, but for the neighbor kids who run all over the place, including my driveway.

Thank god the little guy will be ok. These 'parents' need their reproductive organs removed...........When we lived in va bch-this dumb biotch neighbor let her young son stand in the passenger seat of her car for the ride home from the sitters every day (it was just around the corner from her house. Well she did that UNTIL pulling into her driveway too fast she hit the bump between her drive and the road and he fell forward, hit the door handle, opened the door and fell face first onto the street. I witnessed the whole incident as I was watching my boys ride their tricycles (it was a cul de sac). The poor child had road rash with embedded gravel on his entire face.

A year after we moved here, they were moving to NC and the dad was backing the uhaul truck up the drive. Mom was in the house with her new baby. What the child was doing out side I will never know. But dad ran him over with the back tire (his head). The people that bought our home witnessed it...................

Over the weekend, I saw something on tv about accidents like this. SUV's in general have very large blind spots. If a small child is on their 3-wheeler/bike behind the vehicle, it CAN be difficult to see. In the tv special, there were 16, yes SIXTEEN small children behind an SUV and the driver couldn't see any of them. :ohwell:

Blind spot my arse! She was driving forward! How can you NOT see something running towards you???

...unless of course he popped up out of a gopher hole right in front of the SUV....

It's simple. You lose your concentration for one second, get distracted and then, it's off to the lawyers. "THAT car killed my child!"

Here at work we've got an aging pooch and he just doesn't move like he used to. The other day, I actually had to shoo his old butt out of the way. When he was younger all he had to hear was a car door closing and he'd move or at least he'd move when the engine started.

I hopped in and took off the other day, in a 'hurry' didn't look and my blood ran cold 2 seconds later. I didn't get him, he wasn't even there, but I have to remind myself "Check for Max!".

It CAN happen, we CAN all do it. You just HAVE to pay attention. Kids? Toddlers? Old dogs? MUST locate before moving. MUST. MUST. MUST.

My dad's van (Toyota) has one of those navigation systems built in the dash. Everytime the van is placed in reverse, a camera turns on that is mounted in the rear of the vehicle and shows a live video feed as you back up - eliminating the "blind spot". I think it should be standard on all big vehicles......

In this case, though, the child was in front of her. Also, ppl just need to be REALLY careful. Before backing out of a b-day party, etc...I always double check that all kids are in clear view, and usually have someone spot me b/c I'm nervous about that sort of thing. Even when backing out of my own driveway when I'm leaving w/out the kids, I always make sure I know 100% where they are - whether it be in the house, or standing in the door watching me, or whatever.
