I told myself that I would stay on top of looking for Monster Truck shows in the area. I have wanted to take my sons to one but never found out about them until it was too late. I checked today and Hagerstown Speedway is having 3 shows in July. Info about the shows won't be posted until sometime in May.

July 23 (Friday) at 8pm
July 24 (Saturday) at 8pm
July 25 (Sunday) at 2pm
Hagerstown Speedway :: Hagerstown, MD :: World of Outlaws, Lucas Oil, Late Models, USHRA Monster Trucks, AMA Motorcycles

My brother who is 11 years older than me used to take me to them all the time as a kid. It was so exciting and I was thrilled when my son got interested in Monster Trucks. They can't believe that I've actually seen Grave Digger in person!! They will flip when we head out for a special surprise and they find out where we are going.

I am going to have a hard time keeping the secret. I am so excited already!! And we will be sure to bring some ear protection. I can still hear the trucks now from when I went 20 years ago. I can only imagine how much louder they are now with all the improvements to them.

We went to the Monster Trucks in Hagerstown last year. It isn't that loud since it is outside. They sold out so get your tickets when they go on sale. I think they said their was 8000 people there! People stood for HOURS to get up to the truck and have your pic taken with the driver. It was never that long of a wait at the indoor shows. But the outside was alot more fun. We will probably go again this year if the kids have their way

If you want an exceptional experience, try checking out "Monsters On The Beach" in VA Beach VA. We've taken our son the last three years and its an incredible experience. I don't believe its on the "official Monster Jam" schedule but the city of Virgina Beach hosts the monster truck show right on the beach front and sets up bleachers on the boardwalk. All the main trucks are there (Grave Digger is always there and thats the main draw anyway), at least 8 each year, they have quad races and local guys run the "tough truck" stuff too. We took our son to the Verizon center last year for the Monster Jam and even he said afterwards he though the beach was "wayyyy cooler dad" :) They have much more room to play and get rowdy, the atmosphere is great and your in a great town for family as well. I highly recommend it. They do it every year during Mothers Day weekend and we've made a family tradition out of it now. If you're lucky enough to get a hotel on the beach front where the show is, you get to see all the shows for free, but those rooms get booked way in advance. Check it out :)

I will be checking the site often to see when they go on sale. I don't think we'll do the "picture with the driver" thing. Just being there and watching the show will be enough for the kids. I find it funny that my 6 year old knows the names of all the drivers, what truck they currently drive and what trucks they've driven in the past.

Dennis Anderson lives near my Dad's beach house in Kill Devil Hills so if we ever felt the need to see the Grave Digger, we'd just stay at the beach house and walk there. Thanks for the heads up though.

Plan on going

I have taken the kids to the Baltimore show in 2007, 2008 and this year. Hagerstown sounds fun and we plan on going to it too. It really is a lot of entertainment value for a the money. The drivers are great and you can't help but get out of your seat in awe and cheer for the drivers. The motocross and 4 wheeler guys are just has fun and even more crazy with thier stunts!

We went to Hagerstown last year and I was disappointed. The long drive was not worth it. The amatuer local guys were more entertaining. We'll be going to an arena show next.

Don't this get kind of loud? What age do you recommend taken a child? Is it inside arena? I went to one before in NC and it was inside and it was loud and we was probably about 4-5 bleachers back and got wet mud threw on us...it was a blast...that was when that Grave Digger was there...they flipped over.

I'm not expecting the grand show of my youth when I went to Monster Truck shows regularly. I just want to take my sons to see them in person atleast once before they both grow up and don't want to spend any time with their lame parents. As long as they can see some monster trucks crushing some cars and then flip over and break some tires off, they will have a blast.

At Hagerstown they don't flip over or crush cars. They do jumps and that's it. They probably don't get paid enough to do the stunts. They make a few short runs on the outside of the track and jump a little. Somewhere in this forum are mine and LusbyMom's pics from last year.

That's fine. Jumps are cool too! We going to ride in the back of a monster truck on our summer vacation this year so it will be a neat experience to have from both sides- watching and riding.

Compare the cost of tickets between Hagerstown and the arena. I'll never drive all the way to Hagerstown to watch the little bit they did again. It just wasn't at all what you'd expect. When I say jumps I don't mean anything fabulous.
I've been in the Grave Digger before. While living in Southern Shores when I was 17 we went on his ghost ride. It was cool. That's an experience any kid would love!

We're fine with going to Hagerstown and money isn't an issue. Thanks for some in-sight into the show. We're looking forward to it. Like I said earlier, Dennis Anderson lives near my dad's beachhouse so we can see Grave Digger any time we want. We don't need any high-flying stuff and going into DC is a definite no for us so the Hagerstown show sounds perfect.

My favorite part was the demolition part before the trucks came out.. they tore up some cars  it was great.
