Chinese weather 'coldest winter in 100 years'

CHENZHOU, China - Millions remained stranded in China on Monday ahead of the biggest holiday of the year as parts of the country suffered their coldest winter in a century.

Freezing weather has killed scores of people and left travelers stranded before the Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival — the only opportunity many people have to take a holiday all year.

It has also brought China unwanted negative publicity six months before the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

This guy's book explains that the $5B per year in American research dollars is more than any "global oil company cartel" support the greenies paint as bad. There's a lot more money in promoting 'man-made global warming' than there is in telling the truth.

More importantly, he points out why the temperature averages are rising. It's not because the temperatures are rising, it's because the Russians stopped reporting temperatures from the Arctic!

Why do you insist on starting a new global warming thread every single time you find out it's cold somewhere? :dork:

Your enthusiasm for displaying your tardness has finally exceeded my willingness to witness it. You've been added to my ignore list.

This thread belongs under Religion since the whole debate has evolved to the point of believers and unbelievers. Believers are mostly regarded as eco saints while the words of the skeptical are thrown down as Heresy. Gives true meaning to the statement of unbelievers “May you burn in He**” But take heart yee who of little faith in Al Gore that they will not burn you at the stake since that would likely exceed an allowable individual carbon foot print.

Prolly for the same reason forestool/nhboy posts every anti-american article he finds on DU or Kos.

It's nice and warm out today.

Must be due to that Global warming crap.
Yesterday they were calling for extreme cold over the weekend. Checking the 5-Day now and it's seasonable over the weekend.

I'm not going to complain about the weather outside. Got the back door open in my office and am ENJOYING IT! :yahoo:

Windows rolled down in the Grand Am driving around. Perfect weather.

Where do you people get your information?

Anyone who thinks the earth and our climate is a stable system is nuts!
Its a dynamic system and its always changing. I am not going to argue about man made or natural. But the earth's climate is always changing.

Right now, its getting warmer, and if you go outside, its easy to see. Glacier national park has less than half the ice it had 20 years ago (I know, I have photos). Here's one - anyone who does gardening should know. The climate zones or numbers we use for planting have changed. Bob Ryan on channel 4 even admitted we have changed 1 full zone in the last 15-20 years. The zones are based on the minimum temp that the zone can be expected to see (hence killing your plants). The ice shelfs are definetly shrinking. And ice core samples prove the "green house" type gasses have been increasing - for quite a long time, actually.

If you think about it, extreme weather, cold and hot, should be expected in a dynamic system. Drought, floods, hot, cold, all would accompany any type of climate change.

I don't know why this concept is so difficult. I'm not saying this is going to be the big bad wolf, who knows, maybe most areas will acually be nicer to live in. Maybe not. That's the problem with any dynamic system, its hard to predict what will really happen. Look how accurate the 14 day forecast is - not very!!

Just my 2 cents...

That the weather is variable throughout history isn't the issue in question. That us nasty humans are the cause of the weather variations is the question. Therefore, us nasty humans (other than the chosen few) should relinquish our standard of living, worship Gaia, live as folks did during the Dark Ages and let Algore and the rest of the Board of Directors of his carbon credit companies live in 20k sq ft houses, flying around in private jets, laughing at us for supporting their lifestyles.

Sorry, so you accept the earth is warming right now - but because you don't like what you have to change you don't accept that we are the cause? Or just that some of the 'leaders' are hipocritcal? Look, I have been all over the world flying and the more you fly the more you realize the planet is small. Another thing about a dynamic system is that it doesn't take much to throw it off or change direction. Just ask a helicopter pilot. I think its egocentric to think we ARE NOT changing the planet. I certainly don't think we should go back to huts or anything. In fact, I hate the enviromentalist's that won't let us use our public land. For one, forestry has been a huge blunder over the last century.

I think the issue is that we don't know what the warming will lead to - and as most species don't do well with abrupt change, its safer to try and hold on to what you have. I don't like Florida anyway, if it went under in my lifetime, I could care less. But the people that live there might. Or when all the oak trees die. Or when the crabs die off. But maybe something as good will take its place - who knows! I don't.

But if it didn't COST you anything, wouldn't you want to keep the earth the way it is, not risking unknown change?

Heck, historically we are way over-do for a magnetic pole reversal anyway.
Maybe that will happen and kill us all off anyway...

The Earth was in a cooling trend from the 40's to the 70's. There was a :jameo: about the Earth's surface freezing over. There was the same thing about "China Syndrome" in the 70's, Nuclear reactors will melt and leak into the Earth's core. I do not plan on being overtly wasteful but I am not gonna freak out and obsess over seperating my thrash into 80 different recycling bins either.

I fully agree with you on recyling - to the point that Saint Mary's co. does a terrible job helping us do it. It should be easy.

As far as us being the cause - well, I (very) respectfully disagree. The rate of increase of greenhouse gasses the last century have been climbing much faster than ever before, same with the warming. NOAA's web site has lots of good stuff buried in places, go look for it. Even the weather channel has their climate expert. (I can't wait for metrocast to have weather channel in HD ... lol)
But I suspect that the earth will try and correct the problem - a few volcanic eruptions and we could be right back in an ice age. Maybe one of them will take the politicians with them?
