More homeless kittens help ......

Didn't I say we couldn't take any more kittens? Another urgent situation arose and a stray cat disappeared leaving kittens. We have 5 kittens getting spayed/neutered this week and we need more money than we have to get it done. Seems that the food, litter, Frontline, etc. Is taking a toll in addition to giving discounts for adopting 2 at a time which nets us less than we paid for the vet bills.

H e l p. . . . . .

We welcome donations of litter (any type), food, Frontline, and above all cash helps with the vet bill. Our bill for 5 adoptable kittens will likely be around $600 providing none are positive for disease.

If you decide you're giving them away, a friend has 2 good size Boa's and would probably take them

How do we go about donating items like food? Can't really send it in the mail.

We can coordinate to meet to get it or someone else may offer to bridge the gap in distance. Plus if our schedules didn't coincide, I can always enlist the help of the manager of say .. WaWa to hold an item for us until we can get there to pick it up.

Many times there are folks like Baja who commute that may not mind swinging through Brandywine on his way home, right Baja? (or some already do commute that way). I could meet someone at the WaWa in Brandywine). I'm supposed to be hooking up with ICit to get a cage, so maybe we can include her in the arrangement?

OR if someone wants to snail mail us a gift certificate to Petsmart, Walmart, Tractor Supply, Petco, Target, etc., that would work also. We can always provide the donor the receipt via snail mail detailing what we purchased.

help us with kitten names also?

need kitten names too ................... help need-em fast :jameo:

Th 5 newest kittens need names. Here's the lineup:

1 male black with a dash of white on his inside neck

2 blue-ish/light gray females - look like twins (famous twin girl names maybe?)

2 dark gray kittens (not sure of sex yet) - the lady where they came from was calling them Smokey and Midnight if I recall correctly. I'd like to give them better names. A dark gray female we have was named Nimbus due to her color. So we could use that for one of them?

I am sitting here with a GREAT BIG OLE SMILE on my face ......... someone send us a donation to help the new kitties

We've come a long way since the days of only doing the Rabies Vaccination and the spay/neuter for critters (bare minimum). Now it costs us twice as much to get each one done because we also now do Distemper Vaccination, de-worm, Frontline, FIV/FELV test, and microchip. We also ask that they clean the ears and let us know if they see evidence of ear mites.

I always tell people to take the critter to their vet soon after adoption to get a check-up. Most of the time there are no issues. One day I got a call from a recent adopter to say the kitten had ear mites - YIKES. I immediately notified the rest of the folks who had litter-mates. Ear mites is a PITA because you have to put drops in their ears for like 10 days, then wait a period of time, then do it again for 10 days. There must be an easier way than that? ICit?

When I rescued our cat I got some stuff from VCA which is like Frontline, but treats earmites too. I can't remember the name of it right now, I'll look it up later. It's a monthly treatment that goes right on the back of the neck. I'm not sure exactly if it gets rid of existing mites but it's certainly easier than drops. It cost about the same as Frontline too. Speaking of which, I have some at home which I have not used (Frontline), but I'm not sure if it would be out of date. I look that up when I get home too.

I recall someone telling me about a a product like that, but I never did find out the name. Would be great to know the name, yes please. Maybe ICit will drop in to say something about treating ear mites.

I took 5 kittens in to be vetted yesterday. I had 3 in 1 crate and 2 in the other. When I picked them up there were 5 crates ....... I usually only have 1 kitten per crate, but having 5 this time I found it easier to divide them up into 2 crates.

Seems upon waking from their anesthesia, a zombie kitty brawl ensued (that's the only way I can think of that would describe the strange sounds they make and the way they stumble around trying to fight with each other), and they needed to be separated. Anyone who has ever been in a room full of kitties recuperating from anesthesia has probably seen this. No clue why this happens (it's like grumpy cat but 10 times worse lol). It has no bearing on the cat's personality either, as I've seen the sweetest kitties turn Zombie from anesthesia.

All kitties are doing well this morning, but will be a tad sore for a few days, so we need to keep them warm and quiet as they recuperate. They said that Dash (black male) has a swollen scrotum, so we need to use compresses on him over the next few days, but he should be fine once the swelling subsides. I think Dash purrs the loudest out of them all - he is so beautiful with his shiny black coat. We named him dash due to the "dash" of white fur he has.

I finally remembered to look I yup, it's called Paradyne. There is a website for it. I also have 8 frontline applications which I am not going to use. I have no idea if they go out of date, there doesn't seem to be a date on them. I'll send them to you if you want them. The lot number is D40902BL, if you can find anything on that. I'll look more later.

Yes, the effort is good. But when is the focus going to be on people, children around the world, instead of animals that procreate without any thought?

Or, are people that spit out human children in the same category? How about adopting CHILDREN - babies - around the world for about $400-500 per year, which is pretty much what a cat or dog cost per year to own?

How about giving humans a chance?

How about adopting CHILDREN around the world from uncounted missions that plead for help? Where does life stand? Are animals before humans?

Human babies? Or cute kittens and puppies?

Very tough statement, I know.

I believe in humans more than animals. Unless you are a good Democrat, that is.:killingme

Thanks on the name. I am willing to try the Frontline you have. I think the fleas and mites and ticks jump in every moving thing .... then some of them find their way to our rescue door lol.

Thanks for your generosity.

Thanks I don't think I could stop myself even if I tried hard. What limits how much I can do is money and time. If I didn't have to work for a living I'd have more time but less money lol.

It is so gratifying to help critters find happy homes. One day we will have the time and resources to pull critters from the shelter that are on death row. For now we are intercepting as many as possible that would otherwise be headed to the shelter.

MORE Kitties !!! how many are there?!

okay now tell me, am I a magnet for kitties lately? How else would one describe it? We have many kitties in our care, 9 of them being adoptable kittens, so we need to find homes for these little bundles of joy asap.

I saw a kitten on my property the other day so I set a trap and caught the kitten (maybe 4/5 mo. old). Since there may be more kittens, I set another trap. Guess what? I trapped an adult kitty. Hmmm. I'm scared to set another trap but I have to see if there are more kittens.

I feel obligated to trap them all now that I know there are kitties around. I accidentally had a kitten escape me 2 years ago (male) and interestingly all the kittens/cats I have been trapping this year all look like that escapee! I am now more vigilant about checking crate doors/latches since he escaped through a cage door that popped open.

Obviously these 2 kitties need to be vetted asap. For now I have them in separate big cages. I am using the heating pads I have already, so I'll be on Amazon today looking to buy a few more (the ones that don't have auto-shut-off, Sunbeam I think). The pads come in handy to keep the caged kitties warm.

If anyone is interested in naming the newest ones (we could use donations)...... although I'm not sure of sex yet on either since they are in hide mode at the moment (I put a small cardboard box in each cage so they can "hide"). Since they are ferals, most rescues would normally do only Rabies and spay/neuter, however it is important to also do the FIV/FELV test in case some are sick and need to be put down. No point in turning out a sick cat to get more cats sick and they all suffer, you know? Add Frontline to the cost, and deworming too (hey even though the Frontline will wear off soon, at least the kitty had a month or two of a reprieve from the biting fleas, and the worms get reduced too, you know?), and we end up with a bill of about $80-$100 for each feral.
