The European lifestyle is very different, relaxed. People drive crazy there but no one gets mad. Scooters zip in and out of traffic and around cars like mosquitoes. Steve drove the van so well!

I like their 2-3 hours break in the middle of the day. They don't shove a dinner check in your face until you ask, they want you to sit and enjoy the meal and your friends. No tipping...it's almost an insult.

The people drink their small Italian caffes and smoke like crazy. People walk or ride bikes and alot are very thin. In Florence, which is very cosmopolitan, women wear boots and jeans, but not like Wranglers.. Men have long hair, carry man purses and wear stretchy headbands.

Italy smells fine except for a few WC's... In Rome you could smell people cooking...olive oil, tomato sauce...etc.

I have nothing but wonderful memories and must return :huggy:

You're makin' me miss Spain. :bawl: It's just like that.

Cosmopolitan......that's a good way to describe it. When I was living in W. Germany, I noticed many of the same situations.

A little more laid back - less rushed, etc. The smells and odors from cooking that you don't notice here at home were obvious.

The countryside was gorgeous! Some of your pics remind me of those days.

How about contrasting the food and wines you tasted there, as opposed to what we have here?

Supermarkets sell everything from wonderful meats to alcohol to underwear to televisions. Christy became a supermarket junkie. The meats and cheeses were to die for :faint:
Wines were good. We had quite alot of them  Christy and I both had wild boar. She had the steaks and I had cubes marinated in wine. That night we also ordered 7 desserts  Steve tried out the cigars.
I noticed more fresh herbs and pastas. Tortellini had olive oil on it, not sauce.
The artichokes are amazing. The stem is left on and after they are cooked, olive oil and herbs are drizzled on them.
Gelaterias were on every corner. We tried so many kinds and flavors. We had the best in Scarperia. The gelato display cases were works of art

Okay, you are making me :bawl: and wanting to go back right now!

Tender and delicious. Of course we all sampled each others food on the trip. We experienced alot of different foods. They even poured the kids a little wine for dinner. One night when I didn't go to dinner, the others had stuffed, fried zucchini flowers.

Start saving your money then!

But, I do remember things like that which aren't done the same way in this country - like they were back in the old country. Something "special" about it.

White wines were the mainstay in Deutchland! Spatlese, Kabinets, and Reislings. Auslese was just too darn sweet.

On the streetcorners, they had these portable stands, where they'd have Weinerschnitzels, fries and different kinds of wursts.(plus beir, of course)

I gained about 12 lbs the first month I was there! :lmao:
