Morons at Verizon

Driving the Z
I moved back in April and where I'm at cable isn't available. I need Internet service so I called Verizon to have a phone line installed for DSL service only. The line was installed April 23rd but no DSL kit was received. On Monday the 26th I called Verizon to find out when I could expect the DSL kit and was told I couldn't get DSL service where I was.

This did not amuse me and I asked the woman why was I deceived since I only requested the service because I need access to the Internet. She apologized and advised the service would be disconnected and I would not be billed. I wrote down her name and the date and time of the call.

The first week of May I get a bill from Verizon for $71.51 for the phone line I never used and didn't need since DSL service wasn't available. I called Verizon and spent over 25 minutes talking to at least 12 people. During those 25 minutes I was disconnected twice which really pissed me off. I finally spoke to a manager (??) who advised she would take care of it and the next bill would show a zero balance. I wrote down her name and the date and time I spoke with her.

In June I get another bill for the same $71.51 and I call again. This time I speak to 3 people over a 10 minute period and get told that they're sorry for the inconvience and that it will be taken care of. I write down her name and the date and time of that call.

On July 2nd I get a letter from IC Systems which advises me they are a collection agency trying to collect from me the $71.51 for Verizon. Because of the holiday weekend, I postpone making any calls or writing any letters. Then on July 7th I get a "refund" check from Verizon for 1 cent.

I called Verizon on the 8th and speak to a lady who hasn't the foggiest idea what I'm talking about because the accout shows a "zero" balance. I tell her of course it's a zero balance because the morons there turned it over to a collection agency. She says there's no record of that and I tell her I have the damn letter in my hand and I can fax it to her if necessary. She takes my number and says she'll call me back.

Today I get a "final" bill from Verizon showing $71.52 in credits on a $71.51 bill which now explains why I got a 1 cent refund check that costs them 38 cents to mail.

All I can say is what a bunch of phucking MORONS.

Make sure you get the name, phone number, date/time you called and explain to them that your keeping very detailed notes and their name/number will be in your letter to the MD OAG.

Good luck to ya. I understand the frustration TOTALLY!

Verizon sucks...for anyone wanting to get away from Comcast, forget it, after the introduction period they both cost the same, and Verizon's FIOS service is worse...

I was on hold listening to elevator music for 45 minutes today waiting to talk to someone about pixelation on TV screen...and it still wasn't fixed

and it's not the first time it's happened.....

Check your "credit report" and make sure ICS didn't report you - if they did - get it corrected ASAP (before the other Bureau's list it as well).

I had the VERY SAME problem with verizon over a DSL line they turned on only to find out DSL wasn't available to me after all. I believed them when they said they'd kill the bill I got fgor 1 months service and I didn't check the phone line (never used it) and 2 months later I get a bill for over $100 - when I called they had no record that I had even called before ...... so eventually they turned off the service but I told them I wasn't paying a bill for service I never used! I had told them if there was no DSL I didn't want ANYTHING!!!! I sent a letter of complaint to Verizon and never heard anything back.

Now I have a collection agency chasing me down and I told THEM I'm NOT paying !!!!!! I REFUSE to invest ANY MORE time calling or writing, period. They can bill me all they want to and call all they want. I won't pay and if they put anything on my credit report saying I owe them I will file a dispute of the charge with the credit bureau. I'm just so sick of Verizon's underhanded practices of selling services they can't provide then hoping youy keep the OTHER services anyway? I hear they do that a LOT and people need to MAKE them stop that by complaining about it. I guess I should have complained to the FCC also?

I think itsbob was making a joke about "Mormons" instead of morons.

DOH! I get it now.

Keep hearing horrible things about Verizon, I've had it up too here with COMCAST, cancelled TV for Satellite, looking for an alternative for High Speed Internet, since COMCAST jacked up the price of internet by 33% as soon as I cancelled TV service that is bundled with it.

Really would love a TV service that does NOT require Set Top Box's and High Speed Internet at a reasonable price. My dream, 15Mbps down / 7.5 Mbps up for $45/mo.

COMCAST does a little better on down, but less than half that on up for $60/mo.

Google FCC Complaint, it will send you to a FCC webpage where you can fill out a complaint on line. You pick categories, one that comes to mind would be "Deceptive Advertising", I don't think there is a deceptive business practices.

The FCC will send you a letter a few weeks later. When I complained to the FCC about COMCAST, someone from COMCAST tried to contact me, but only got me by e-mail, when I explained in my e-mail reply to COMCAST that I already switched to satellite and my complaint was general about locking their system into a proprietary system against the spirit of the 1996 telecomunnications act, that nothing short of returning their service to an open system would satisfy me. I have NOT heard back from COMCAST since then.

YUP that's the category I used - I explained briefly the issue - I need to check my credit report to see if Verizon has me listed as being a bad debt with them? Verizon will never have to worry about getting my business ever again. I had other issues with Verizon prior to that, so I now know that saving a few $$ via Verizon wasn't worth the trouble.

I read (can't remember where) that Verizon won't report you. They let their contracted "debt collector's" do that dirty work.
I "think", but don't really know, companies sell the debt to debt collection agencies at a loss. The debt collector makes his profit by getting the debtor to pay the full amount owed.

So the big company gets some of the money they are owed without having to go through a big hassle. The debt collector makes a profit by getting as many people as possible to pay back the full debt to them, some they won't ever get and it will be a loss.

So the debt collector could put a bad credit report on him, can they NOT?

If its Verizon's mistake its up to them to fix it in total, buy back the debt and make sure the bad credit report is removed.

I stand corrected. I just found Verizon Wireless - stopped credit reporting to agencys as of Sept., 2003, unless a balance is charged off to a collection agency where they state: Verizon Wireless - stopped credit reporting to agencys as of Sept., 2003, unless a balance is charged off to a collection agency

Based on everything else I've read (searched Google with: verizon "credit report") - you will have a tough time getting Verizon to do anything - it ends up in your basket. If you feel it is their responsibility and not yours - you will be the one with the "ding" on your credit report.

If I end up with a "ding" mine will be accompanied by my explanation that I do not owe the money and Verizon is WRONG. I refuse to pay up just to keep my credit clean when I don't owe the money. I'm sick of companies getting away with that kind of bullying crap!

ArkRescue please don't get upset with me but you will still be holding the bag and it will affect your credit rating big time. Trust me - lender's don't look at the "reasons" unless you are buying a house (or something very expensive). I know you are pissed (understandable) - but, you will be the one with the credit rating that dropped 25+ points. Anyway - just felt you should consider the end result.

There has got to be a way to contest it, look into it.

Twisted ear stated that Verizon makes the bad credit report when they charge off the debt a collection agency. If Verizon makes the report, they should be able to retract it. If they finally credited you and zeroed your account, they should have no problem retracting/correcting the report.

Where I see a problem is if the collection agency could make the bad report, and I bet their is laws about that because of the problems that come out of it. The collection agency doesn't care if Verizon made a mistake or NOT, they bought your debt, they will eat it if they do NOT collect, they won't stop until they are paid, regardless if the original company made a mistake or NOT. Thats why the original company probably has to make the report when they sell off the debt.

If Verizon fixed the problem and zeroed you account, then they owe the collection agency the debt the collection agency bought off. Hopefully Verizon is honest enough to do this and NOT pocket the money they got from the collection agency, leaving you to deal with the debt collectors. If they've done that, I would think they would correct the credit report as well.

BUT, you should check and demand its corrected if it has NOT been done so.

Well when I called Verizon multiple times to fix the problem I was repeatedly told that there was NO record I had ever called before. Every time I called I was told that, so eventually I gave up and sent a letter to the address the lady on the phone told me to send my complaint letter to. I did that and never heard from Verizon. What else can I do other then file that online report with the FCC that I filed? I hope they can help out?
