I will definitely be sure to post perspective areas and would be much appreciative if you guys gave me a thumbs up or thumbs down!?! lol

Be specific because, seriously, the environment can change within a few blocks. "Great Mills", for example, has some very nice neighborhoods and it also has drug infested income-based housing. But if you post the areas you're interested in, everyone will be happy to give you information.

Or misinformation.

I promised myself after college those days were done lol. Mainly because every apartment I lived in had paper thin walls and it drove me nuts. I definitely want to live in a house.

The neighborhood behind San Suci shopping center is fairly decent. It's conveniently located (about 10 minutes to base) and rent/mortgage is comparable to a nice apartment.

When you get into the area, I do not care what you hear, the entire area south of Hermanville Road is infested with nuclear waste. Don't come down here (I mean, there). We (I mean, they) have radioactive deer that are as large as some vehicles that will completely demolish your vehicle. They've also been known to take babies for ransom, and sometimes burglarize houses, especially people they know rent month to month.

Yikes! On purpose?

Sometimes, sometimes they don't know better and sometimes they're just jackasses.

Usually it's the ones that talk about the out of control crime, the meth labs on every corner, the streetwalker girls, the "unwelcoming" attitude of current residents.

Just keep in mind that you're coming to a mostly rural area steeped in history and long time traditions. A place where a farm has been owned by the same family for 300 years, where people hunt as a way of life and people believed an honest living was to be had working the water.

No, mostly through ignorance. What Vrai said stands. Even a couple of blocks can make a huge difference, but there are areas that are not the best. Even in the worst, your chance of being involved in a violent crime is ridiculously low, unless you seek out folks like drug dealers. But the zip codes down here are silly, and include a wide variety of housing types. Lexington Park, for instance, has what I would consider the two worst neighborhoods in the county, but also hosts a ton of very nice places, same for Great Mills. So a street name or neighborhood is best. I lived in what most folks would consider the second worst area for three years with small kids, and never had a problem.

Not to mention the nightmarish traffic

Well, down here, if you dont like the sound of gunfire, it might bug some folks. Yesterday, sounded like a gang war, what with everybody trying out the new Xmas guns:) And it wasnt any of the houses within a mile of me (4) Hmmmm, maybe thats why there's not much crime down this way:killingme There was that attempted gas theft, and that guy got shot, or shot at:)

My seven minute eight mile commute is tough:)

Well I completely respect that and being a history buff, I have a strong affinity for areas like this. I definitely plan on taking the time to get to know the area, its history, and as much as I can, the people.

being a history buff

Well, you'll be in your element around here. Not only St. Mary's County, which is the birthplace of Maryland, but Annapolis, DC, Baltimore and VA are only a short drive away. If you're big on the Civil War, there is Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Richmond, Antietam, etc a few hours away.

The biggest complaint from relocaters (or "come-heres", as we say ) is that "there's nothing to do". This is not true, and you sound like you have a great attitude. So I predict you're going to like it here.

Welcome!
