Music teachers/directors locally in SoMD?

Asking for guidance in case someone knows of an area music teacher/director that has a possible needy recipient in mind for a Trumpet that is being given away. The goal is for the Trumpet to go a child that already wants to play the trumpet, but just can not afford one. Thanks.

Which county are we talking about? If it's Calvert, you should contact Linda Patton at the BOE. You could also research a group called Instruments in the Attic - I believe they may take donations. Good luck!

Sounds great - some things are better to be donated and used by those in need than for us to make a few $$ from it. I played an instrument when I was growing up, but my parents were able to afford the purchase of the instrument, and to pay for lessons. Not all kids are that fortunate. It just seems like a better investment in humanity to donate it. I knew if I posted here someone would know who we should get in touch with - thanks!

I loved playing trumpet in school, wish I'd kept up with it. I played my dad's trumpet from when he was in school and I'm hoping to hand it down to one of my kids when they get old enough.

Very sweet of you to be donating one, hopefully some kid will get a lot of love and great memories involving it.

Wow, nothing like tooting your own horn.

J/K. Nice gesture.

oh ok good thing you added that or I was gonna :spank: you ! LOL

Seriously I also hope sometimes by this stuff being posted that other people think of ways to give also. I'll be honest, if that horn could bring us $200 I'd probably have to make the decision to sell it to get the revenue we need, but the prices I saw online for used horns (less than $100, some less than $50), it just seemed to be more value to get it in the hands of some kid who REALLY can not get one any other way, you know?

Go to your local elementary school and give it to the music teacher. They will be glad to have it to loan out to kids that can't afford one. That's what we're doing with the one we have (given to us by a helpful forumite that can name herself if she wants to) no that none of our kids want to play. You can get a tax deduction for it too.

See, the more people who come across this post, the more information and options become available. My concern is that it really be used by a needy child and not handed to someone as a favor because of who they know, etc. Sounds like putting it in the hands of a music professional in a public school would be a good option. Loaning it to kids sounds like a great way for more than 1 child to get to use it to benefit. Good, very good option.

I played the saxophone in elementary school. 6th grade, the teacher wanted me to play barisax. Luckily they had one at the school, so my mom did not have to put out the big bucks to buy that one after just paying for the altosax. Next year I decided to play the trumpet. Self taught my self over the summer with a loaner from the school. 8th grade I played all three instruments in one concert. It was a lot of fun, and I was able to do it because the school loaned me 2 of the 3 instruments to play. :yay:

School loaner instruments are awesome! Learned to play french horn courtesy of one, and learned that I sounded like a dying moose trying to play a tuba.

I'm liking the idea of the Trumpet being a loaner more and more. Many children can benefit by experimenting with a loaner.

I finally called and made arrangements to take the trumpet to Baden Elementary in Brandywine later today. Thanks everyone for your ideas and suggestions. I feel good about the decision to donate it to their music program.
