I have an ecclectic taste in music:

James Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, the Stones, John Prine, Pink Floyd, Elvis Costello, B52's, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Counting Crows, Sarah McLaughlin, Natalie Merchant, Reba McIntyre, Bonnie Raitt, Loreena McKinnett, the Chieftains, Enya

Misc Stuff: classic R&B (Mustang Sally, oh baby...) classical, zydeco, bluegrass (the Seldom Scene), cajun (Beau s'olei), SOME rap, light jazz (Spyra Gyra)

...just to mention a few!

Where I listen: everywhere possible...:D

Seldom Scene

Good choice on the Seldom Scene, Sierra, but they just aren't the same since John Duffy died..

Depends on the mood at the time. I'll listen to anything except RAP (I agree the C is silent). Most of my favorites have already been mentioned with the exception of Jackson Brown.

All over the map...Motown, Stax, Green Day, Sam Cooke, Sarah McLachlan, Barry White, Stones, Beatles, Judas Priest, '70s Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Dwight Yoakam, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, some Zappa, George Jones, Stevie Ray Vaughan. The O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack is one of my current favorites.

Anybody out there like these? Danny Gatton (Charles County boy!), Ruthie and the Wranglers, Rev. Horton Heat (rockabilly at 200mph). How about Halford, the band led by Judas Priest's ex-singer?

I Listen to Alternative Rock most of the time. Sometimes I listen to R&B. I'm taking my 15 year old son to his first concert in June. We're going see Greenday and Blink 182. I think I'm more excited about it than he is.

I was fortunate enough to see him in concert once at the Jazz Festival held at Wolf Trap. Absolutely unbelievable talent - I still have never seen anyone come CLOSE to the things he could do with a guitar. :guitar: I'll never forget him draping a towel over the strings and playing it with a beer bottle... WOW!

What a shame it was that his inner demons caused him to take his own life. I have his albums (88 Elmira Street, Cruisin' Deuces, etc.), but they only capture a one-dimensional part of him - he was so much more than a static recording.

"Oh We got both kinds of music here. Country AND Western!"

I still have to get used to the number of country music stations down here (if the radio even gets turned on in the first place). I guess my musical habbits are more urban: Hip-Hop, techno, jazz and Mowtown. Someone mentioned Zappa earlier. Was that you Tonio? And the Rev. Horton Heat. Yes, I am a big Zappa fan.

I didn't think anyone even knew Rev. Horton Heat except me. I only like music with words to it - no instrumentals or anything like that. No matter what the genre, if it has words, I like it! Except wimpy New Age stuff. And old Air Supply crap. That stuff makes my teeth hurt. I won't listen to what I call "cussword music" unless it's creative and funny - if it's just ugliness with no imagination I hate it.

Any Big Rude Jake fans out there? I think someone mentioned him earlier - that was my favorite CD for a loooooong time.

Tonio, how about Big Sandy? I saw him at the Birchmere with Bill Kirchen a few years back and it was AWESOME!

My sister got me into Rev. Horton Heat. She went to college in Austin and saw him live there. I've never heard of Big Rude Jake or Big Sandy, although I've seen Bill Kirchen live.

I have the Zappa albums Hot Rats, Apostrophe, Overnight Sensation and Sheik Yerbouti. I first got into him through listening to Steve Vai, who played in Zappa's band. If you like Zappa, try Vai's albums Flex-Able, and Passion and Warfare. And don't eat the yellow snow.

...little bit of doo-wop...Go Cry on Somebodys Elses Shoulder...

Go ahead and cry
Go ahead and let the tears fall outa your eye
Let 'em fall on your dress
Who cares if it makes a mess?
I gave you my high school ring
At the root beer stand
We had a teen-age love baby
I thought it was sharp
It was really so grand...but

You cheated me baby
And told some dirty lies about me
Fooled around with all those other guys
That's why I had to get my khakis pressed
I sure don't need you now
And I don't love you
Anymore

Wow, Otter bringing out the Mother's days. That's my favorite Zappa album- Freak Out. Trouble Every Day was like a college anthem....And Barbara, bringing out Joe's Garage...Man, that album plays out like a cheezy high school play gone wrong. I love it...Anybody see 200 Motels? The movie about life on the road with the Mothers of Invention. The role of Frank Zappa is played by Ringo Star. Talk about a tripped out film. If Bertrum the Redneck don't make you laugh you've been in S. Md too long.

When younger I had extreme opinions on music - it was all punk/ ska all the time - Operation Ivy - Pennywise - The Clash - Skatalites - Dance Hall Crashers - Less Than Jake - occaisionally we would find room for Marley, DiFranco, and yes even Rockabilly like the Reverend was allowed ( . . . . Cowboy Love was unmainstream enough for us :) ) Then there was the Metallica/ Nirvanna / Pearl Jam / Alice in Chains/ Guns n Roses phase after that . . . .
Luckily I have lightened up a bit and can listen to most anything (even country and rap which were sworn off earlier). I think Tonio mentioned Stevie Ray earlier - he is a god! And then there are the old favorites I forgot about when I went into the all-punk phase - like the Boss . . . I love a lot of the 80's stuff now though I hated it then.
Do you think that means that in 20 years I will love the stuff I hate now? Like the sugarpop Britney Spears/ N Sync genre?
Nah!

Classic Rock (I'm a 98.3 junkie), 80's music, soul, Cajun & Zydeco, world music, older alternative (Kate Bush, Cure, Dead Milkmen, Judybats). Very rarely do I listen to modern Top 40 stuff. I usually listen in the car, and when cleaning or cooking. I also have a growing interest in bluegrass, but I don't like modern country music much.

OMG - me too :) Of course right now I am on a major Violent Femmes fix! LOL nobody seems to know who they are, and I say the fathers of the music you listen to LOL. Anyway - I do listen to everything - can play bluegrass on my very own banjo (I know how corny is that), but I tend to get in a "mood" and will play one cd over and over and over and over and over (get the point) until I can get into another mood and then it is another cd and repeat. LOL I just got done with the Pink cd (actually quite good) and now the femmes (after religion) who knows what's next.....
