So I noticed my bike registration runs out 31 May and I am puzzled because I didn't get the notice. O went to MVA website and put in the info and it said "vehicle cannot be renewed online" :confused: I have before :shrug: Only difference is it is paid off this time. does that make a difference?

Obviously. You know what sucks? I am a pretty straight up citizen, follow the rules, pay my taxes to the man, but I just have the feeling that they are going to screw me somehow. Isn't that sad when a citizens instant reaction is fear of the government?

You have any outstanding tickets or unfulfilled obligations?

Nevermind, your post above clears you.... :lol:

I can see it now;

I go to MVA, get my little ticket, check to be sure I have registration, insurance, title, DNA test, blood sample, retina scan. Wait a half hour and the woman types my data into the machine and mutters "Oh my" under her breath then calls over a supervisor who explains they heard I ripped off a mattress tag, or recorded an NFL game without the express written consent of the commissioner and it is going to cost me a $1,000 for a tag.

I have no idea what that feels like. I have dedicated my life to last minute solutions to self created problems and come out smelling like a rose. If this happened to me, I'd be pulled over on June 1 by a state trooper hand delivering my new registration and a check for $100 I had over paid 10 years ago.

It's a gift. I don't ask why. I just say 'thank you' and tip well.

You need to go another day. You forgot your first born son.

We have had several issues with MVA! Just recently we had your issue- tried to renew online, and were not allowed to. Turned out they wanted proof of insurance for a vehicle we no longer own! Mind you, when we originally registered it we showed proof. They made us call our insurance company and get proof that we had insurance for the period we owned that vehicle-- even though we sold it a year ago! Sheesh!

We have several cars (older kids driving) and more than once after registering a vehicle we have gotten a threatening letter saying we needed to show proof of insurance! I've called our insurance company multiple times to have whatever form is is MD requires faxed to them. Why require proof of insurance when you register if you're not going to believe it unless you get a certain form??? Sheesh!

See this is why I am now struck with fear. It is always something oddball weird with these people and there is no appeal.

As far as insurance I have had this vehicle for 3 years, same insurance, same lienholder, nothing has changed except I recently paid it off.

Well, it was a pain in the backside, however it was fixed in a morning once they received a fax from USAA. MVA had frozen the registrations on all our vehicles over a truck we no longer own that was insured, like all the rest, when we did own it! It just seems things could work more efficiently and be better for all involved.
Hope you get it figured out.

Make sure your lein holder didn't tack on a fee for registering the title with the state, or even if they've done it at all. Could be the problem. Only way to find out is try to get a human being to talk to.

I remember when I brought my camper here from Maine. Had a Maine registration, insurance the whole thing, even the original bill of sale. Because in Maine they do not issue a title for trailers under 24 feet long I had no title just the OEM certificate of origin.

MVA in Maryland wanted to charge me the $51 registration, $50 or whatever title fee AND $1500 in sales tax. I told them I paid the sales tax in Maine 3 years before and showed them the bill of sale with the tax already paid. :nono: Because it was never issued a title, I had to pay Maryland equivalent sales tax. No matter who I talked to it was like talking to a brick. I even had them call the Maine DMV to get an explaination of the title, taxes I already paid and they would not budge.

I told them to screw themselves I was not paying $1500 again on a trailer I already paid. I just let the tag expire and a couple years later I sold the thing.

Same happened to me this year for the first time - no notification for end of May. Went to McKays in LP city, paid a couple more bucks and got the sticker right then and there.
