I don't know if they are still doing it, but CA used to tax you everytime you renewed. Based of the value of your car. AZ tried it one year and then backed off due to public outcry.

Out of curiosity I just tried to renew the tags to a horse trailer that expired over a year ago online. MVA site would not let me do it.

Seems as though someone "called" mva bck in April of 09 And canceled my tag. she said "called". I never got a notice to turn in the tags or anything. So I was riding around with no registration for over a year

Hmm, that sounds like an MVA cover up for we screwed up. I thought you had to mail your tags back or turn them in.

:yikes: Did they happen to provide you the name of the person who "called" so that you could have them prosecuted??? I wouldn't think MVA would accept a call to cancel tags unless it was from the lein holder or one of the registered owners of the vehicle/trailer. That's scary!

The insurance company might if your insurance lapsed, but I don't think this was the case here.

Actually, MVA reads SoMD forums and knew just how AWESOME Pete was, and had to meet him, so they botched the records on purpose just so he had to come in.....

Yeah, I thought of the insurance company too, but Pete said all of that was in order. Wonder if it could have been the loan company calling to say the lein was lifted when he paid it off and someone misunderstood and canceled the tags instead?

It was probably the same person that cancelled Petezaa last year.
