My Dog was attacked.

First off let me say, I know I don't post much..... but I thought this was important.

I live in White Sands, off of Planter's Wharf rd. I was outside walking my American Bulldog. I have 3 acres and he only likes to "do his business" in the woods line... def still on my property. Anyways, I was just standing there while he was going to the bathroom (he was on a leash). This Pitbull mix (pos mixed with a boxer -because of the mouth/jaw shape) comes running out of the woods and goes to attack my leg. I pulled back really quickly and grabbed a stick, within this split second he began attacked my dog.... I was trying to beat the dog with the stick to get it away from my dog as my dog is yelping and trying to pull away. The other dog comes at me again and my dog snapped at him... I'm not quite sure if he got him or not but between that and me hitting him with a stick he ran into the woods. I hurried my dog and myself up onto the deck to take a look at my dog and myself. My dog is all white... and by this point he was completely pink from all the blood. He lost his two front canine's and has puncture wounds all on his legs and ears.

Before anyone gets started- I own a Pitbull.... I'm not scared of them... but this one was different... he just had rage in his eyes. he was on a mission to kill something and my dog wouldn't let him get me. In the end I called animal control-they are doing a report, and took my dog to the er vet. I have paid a total of around $200 so far and now my dog is on "house arrest." Truth be told- Im not so upset about that, as I am now being scared of having myself and dogs outside on my own property. I just wanted everyone to know about this because I am afraid for others, dogs, and kids... I mean this dog came out of NO WHERE and left the same way he came... who's to say he hasn't done this before--or won't again. Just a warning!!

I have 7 acres - but when I go out with my dogs (not leashed) I always have my .357 Magnum in my pocket - just in case! Especially at night!

Very smart!!

Thanks - I have my moments! Anyhow, I do feel very sorry for Roxy for that incident. That never happened to me, it is scary because you don't know somebody else's dog and what they would do. I hope no major damage was done. Dogs are our best friends ever!

They're out to get us

Newsflash: that pit wasn't different. That's why pitbulls are given such a negative light. They're nasty dogs unless they are brought up with some extra special care...and even then, you never know if something could trigger them to snap. Keep an eye on your dog, after that experience he might go nutso too (especially if that dog was rabid).

Any one w/ animal control mention rabies?
Just a thought as you described the dog as having rage in its eyes....

Hope your dog is going to be OK!!!!

Yeah they mentioned rabies. My dog is up to date and is now on "house arrest" for 10 days. Just to monitor him. We have no idea who the dog is and who he belongs to, so it's kinda tough to truly know about rabies. It just scares me, I mean I love my dog to death---but also what if that would have been a child....

There is a pit that lives 4 houses down from me that has gotten loose several times in the last week....the last time it did it went in the neighbors garage and attacked her dog....when we finally caught it and leashed it, it was trying to go after my little dog and she was in my yard....the only thing that saved my dog was the fence

When the owner came to get it, he seemed like he didn't care that the dog got out and that it attacked another dog....all he said was "I have a hole in my fence that I thought I fixed this time"....to which I replied "if that dog attacks me, one of my children, or my dogs, you will be picking up it's body next time"....he didn't seem to care about that either

I'm glad to hear that you and your dog are well. I'm sure animal control will interview neighbors to figure out where that dog came from.

Next time?

Granted it wasn't your dog or your house, but if a dog enters my garage, and attacks a pet, or even more so a child, there will be NO second guessing, there will be a body not a dog to be picked up, no second chances, no excuses.

If animal control doesn't take the dog and destroy it, then the neighborhood needs to find away to do it.

I was speaking of the next time it got out and he had to come get it

I agree. That is scary. I would have been freaking out, too. I hope they catch the dog. I've seen crazy dogs (not sure if it was pitt, but I think it was a pitt mix) attack TIRES on a parked car. I had a dog run at me and my dog (leashed) while I was walking around the block w/ my child in her stroller...it was really scary. I never felt safe walking around the block after that.

Any legal issues with harming a dog that comes on your property and poses a threat? Am I protected if I plan to "take care" of the dog?

I am so very blessed

I'm sure if you shoot the dog, you'll get charged with discharging a firearm, and if you try or accomplish killing the dog any other way you'll be charged with animal cruelty.

And if some people had their way on here, the dog that came on to your property would have the same rights as a human being, and you'd be charged with Assault.. Attempted Murder, Murder etc.. etc..
