Joggers. My Austrailian got arrested for that after one nip on a neighborhood kid, she nipped a jogger. Got her second quarantine and we had to give her to someone in Calvert cause third would have had them put her down. They not only herd, but will nip, and some people will complain. I wanted to keep her so bad. We named her "kip, the amazing wonder dog." What an awesome dog she was.

Working her in agility would be better in the long run. You gain a better bond with your dog because you are working as a team and she has to depend on you for direction and its also very mentally stimulating for the dog. (and safer for the animals) I don’t know why you thing she HAS to herd?? I have GSD's and they are herders as well and you don’t see me wanting to take them herding?? I work them in a different way… Im teaching the male cadaver detection… far cry from herding. Its all about the "handler - K-9" bond you are making and how you work their mind. You my friend have lots to learn.

Also BS Gal is right.. You need to watch the prey drive.. .it could get her and yourself in big trouble.

She is trained and ready to go....it's in the genes baby.

It's in her genes to want to herd and run animals, but is she trained to listen to commands? I'm sure you know that herding dogs that aren't supervised (or trained) can and will run animals to death.

Yes, she listens well to me and responds to my hand gestures...I know a little something with exp. of two Aussies earlier in my life....I understand your point though, I've got some ideas and thanks for all who helped me out.

Some people should really use google -

Herding Dog Training

just because your dog is a hearding "Type Breed" does not mean it is a natural herding dog. They have to be properly trained. Cattle dogs who heard cattle on farms are taught by the OTHER dogs and are not just thrown out on the field with the cows or sheep without proper training. They have to know commands from the ranchers to heard or chase or round or what ever it is the rancher NEEDS them to do. I wouldnt send my german sheppard into a live burglary and expect them to catch the bad guy just because they are a german sheppard and the are used as a k-9 without the proper training.

Me too.

Shepherds aren't guard dogs, they're herding dogs. They're used for K-9 type of work because of their intelligence.
