Something is going to have to be done, you just cannot fit the amount of people down here on the road with continuious stoplights ever 1.5 miles.

Excellent point.

A few years ago, I turned down a job in the D.C. area because I couldn't see commuting that distance every day until we moved. We thought we could find a place to live up there in six months. :lmao:

I don't think it's socially and economically healthy to have so much of a city's workforce living so far from the city. I read recently that some D.C. commuters live in southern Pennsylvania, and I couldn't imagine driving two hours or more to work every morning.

It's obvious why people do this--housing closer to the city is too damn expensive. Builders are putting up million-dollar homes in counties like Howard and Anne Arundel (Who the hell can afford a house that expensive, anyway?) and the county government employees there can't even afford to live in those counties.

Sorry about that chief.
Those expensive homes are also being put up in PG & north Calvert. My question always is "what do those people do for a living that they can afford a house like that". One thing I know is they don't punch a clock like the rest of us.

You might be right. What does a family of four or five do with a 4,000-square-foot house?

We are a family of five and are about to add 2048 sq. ft. of living space to our current 1248 sq. ft. home.... I can't wait. If I had my way, it would be more. :ohwell:

I can appreciate that. Sounds like you will actually be using the space, instead of buying a large house just to impress people.

How come it's okay for me to want a bigger house with lots of living space, but not them...

Good point. I was trying to make a point about priorities and choices. Those people are not wrong for spending their money that way. That's their choice. I don't understand their choices, but that's fine. I just choose to make different choices for my life.

I wouldn't blame it solely on "priorities" off the bat. If they have the income to support a lifestyle that affords a larger home, why not? They can probably afford the maid to clean it, too.

I imagine a lot of the larger home owners are big-whigs and ceo types who probably do a fair amount of entertaining in their homes ... kinda hard to do that if you have a standard 3 bed, 2 bath, LR, DR, kitchen rolled into 1500 sq. feet. :ohwell:

Hell, if I had the benjamins to get a bigger house and the staff to clean it, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I like having a separate family room from the living room for watching tv, furniture I'm not so worried about if something spills onto it, etc. But if I had my way, I'd opt for a bigger house that had room for our computers, bigger bedrooms, another bathroom (or at least another half-bath). I'd also hire the live-in housekeeper to clean it so I didn't have to. :diva:

let's face it ... who really LOVES and WANTS to clean toilets, floors, blinds, etc. so much so that if they did have the money for a maid, they would still keep doing it?

Its funny, cause the BIG ass houses are spreading! Look in Indian Head, its just the style of housing that is changing.. I don't think it has much to do with "impressing people"..

You may have a point. Myself, I can't see buying a larger house than what I feel I need. Partly because it would mean a larger mortgage payment than I could afford, and partly because more square footage means more property taxes.

I guess it comes down to "what you can get for your money"..

We looked at older, smaller homes, and we got a nicer, newer, bigger house for the same amount of money..

Doesn't it make sense that, if 200,000 buys 3,000 sq. ft, or 1500 sq. ft, you should buy the 3,000? A plus if the 3,000 is brand new?

They need to expand the road infront of Hickory Hills apartments. I saw an accident the other night over there.

I'm sorry, Chancellors Run in front of Hickory Hills!

I know the road you speak of; just never heard anything like that about that intersection.

Ive been on that road going northbound to 235 and it seems that people always swerve around cars going into that development. Seemed like a matter of time before somebody got hit.

But Ken says you can pass on the right.
And if you don't believe him, he will meet you at the lake.

There are plans to improve Chanselors Run.

Read this, specificaly the 4th paragraph.

While they're at it, thay can fix the goofy intersection that started this thread.
