The 4th and 5th paragraphs:
In the federal transportation bill, another $10 million was included for the improvement of Chancellors Run Road in St. Mary's County and $10 million for a new interchange connecting Route 5, Route 373 and Brandywine Road in southern Prince George's County. The bill must go through a congressional conference committee later this spring before the funding is authorized.

Local officials said they were pleased that the federal money may speed up construction of the much-needed road improvements. The Hughesville bypass, which would ease congestion on Routes 5 and 231 in eastern Charles County, has a construction price tag of $38.7 million. Chancellors Run Road has been identified as St. Mary's County's top priority road project, as it has become an important thoroughfare for employees at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

And if you don't believe him, he will meet you at the lake.
No:crazy:, the law says when you can do that. No one goes to the lake anyhow. :bawl:

I live about 50 feet from the entrance to hickory hills on chancelor's run and I've seen several accidents there since I moved in a few months ago. Making a left turn out of hickory hills onto chancelor's run is like chancing a guantlet. Car's come up over the rise from 235 doing 60+ mph and are on top of you before you see them. Plus the heavy traffic results in people taking chances to prevent from having to wait 10 minutes to pull out. I know several people who live in hickory hills that just plain refuse to make a left there.

I've only had one close call since I moved in, but that was enough to make me much more careful. I had to floor the gas pedal to swing the back of my car around to prevent from being hit (mustang v8 is good for something besides guzzeling gas). I don't think the on coming car even bothered to put on his brakes though.

Actually, there are lots of them, if you listen on the scanner it's dispatched as Chancellor's Run Road and Fire Department Lane, I'd say probably at least 2 decent ones a week.

Side note, do you think if they would have went with the original plan, extend the median strip to just past that 2nd church on CR rd, it would help any? Doubt they ever will b/c it would be very inconvenient for the fire department.

And the Elk's Lodge.

Yeah, them too:rolleyes:

If there was a strip there and my house was on that road and on fire I wouldn't want to have to wait the extra 5+ minutes for the fire trucks to get there just because they had to go and turn around just to get down the road.

I would rather they put a red light there. Being forced to turn right is almost as bad as risking an accident.

When you are on Chancellors Run Road heading toward 235 IT IS LEAGL TO MAKE A U TURN back down Chancellors Run Road. People driving SOUTH that are turning on to Chancellors Run Road have a YIELD sign and are suppose to stop for people making U turns. Also if you do turn down Chancellors Run Road from 235 it is NOT legal to stop in the frickin middle of the road to make the U turn back toward 235, go up to the firehouse and turn around in the parking lot.

I talked to the state highway inspectors MANY MANY times about this intersection and was told the reason they don’t put up a sign saying you CAN make a U turn is cause they don’t want people to make U turns cause it is unsafe. I asked why they don’t just put a NO U turn sign up and was told that the lawyer that owns Hickory Hills shopping center has documents from the state that say they will never take away his entrance from Chancellors Run Road and if they do he has grounds to sue them (and he will win) so by allowing the U turn he can’t sue them.

So what are your views on this

Do you make U turns there?

What should be done?
Good questions.

I suppose in a way, I could see the concern from the folks at the Hickory Hills community, having a $h!tload of traffic barreling through their streets exiting onto Chancellors Run.
But there is a firebreak about a 1/4th of a mile up the road towards Great Mills that maybe a road could be fashioned through there , I think.
That area has been cleared of major trees and stumps and goes all the way through to Old Rolling Rd.

Make a road out of it.

If it's a county concern for fire fighting, the trucks could fight it from the shoulders of the new road. What is so frikken difficult about that?

I've lived off Chancellors Run for 14 years now, and have yet to see any fire hazard, or fireblazes along that area.

I live off Chancellor's as well, but I don't think the intersection at 235 is nearly as big a problem as the cluster #### between Buck Hewitt and NMorris Rd. We sit on our deck and watch the medivac lanf nearly once every 1-2 months.

]I've heard about that one. As you approach Buck Hewitt and N. Norris Rd., from RTE 235, heading west on Chancellor's Run, there's a slight depression in the road, and if you're going at a fairly fast clip, you'll find maybe a couple of vehicles stopped down there, trying to making a left turn onto B. Hewitt Rd.

Ooops! Hit them brakes! :yikes:

Just read in the Emptyprize that this is soon going to be illegal.

That whole road is a mess. Should there be a traffic light at that intersection?

Also, what should be done to fix the Chancellor's/235 intersection? Is it too badily designed that nothing can be done?

beat me to it. The Emptyprise story also addressed the alleged agreement between the shopping center and SHA. SHA says no such agreement and a sign will be posted soon.

One of the biggest issues there is cars coming out of Buck Hewwitt and flooring it to get out in traffic (turning right), then immediately slamming on their brakes to make the left on Norris. I don't know about a light, but a center turning lane would help.

The state has a $1 billion surplus this year. Wouldn't it be great if they fixed some of our problems? Like Chancellors, Solomons Bridge, Hughesville, and Prince Frederick.

Why are there so many cars doing that? Isn't Norris Road a dead end with only a few people living off of it? The ADC maps used to show Norris Road as a through road, but that was one of ADC's tricks to keep people from copying its maps.
