"National Mutt Day was created in 2005 by Celebrity Pet Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige, and is celebrated on both July 31st and December 2nd. National Mutt Day is all about embracing, saving and celebrating mixed breed dogs. The biggest percentage of dogs euthanized in due to the constant over-breeding and public desire of designer dogs and pure bred puppies that are sold to pet stores supplied by puppy mills that often produce ill and horribly neglected animals. This is my newest addition. Just a sweet little old beagle mix gal and after a visit with my vet Tuesday I can tell she is going to need a lot of help due to her dental situation and her hip/back/leg issue. She needs an x-ray to see what's going on in her back-end and some serious dental work after which she may not have many teeth left to chew with. How does a dog that's only 10 years old (estimate) have that much dental decay and already be missing so many teeth?

I am very surprised that she lasted in the kill shelter in her condition and at her age. Dogs like her usually come up for euthanasia pretty fast. She's is a sweetheart that wags her happy little tail! Maybe that's how she lasted there so long? Oh and she's only 16 lbs. I have never had such a small dog, ever! I have to be careful not to step on or squash her.

Have you found anything out about the anemia yet?

No, my vet said to go forward with feeding her the premium dog food to see if her anemia changes, and if not we will address it then. He suggested I ask HS to consider doing her dental while she is under anesthesia for the spay surgery. I somehow doubt they will agree to do that, but I can ask. I would hope they would have the benefit of the critter in mind, but if their rules say no more than just a spay surgery, then I will have to ask Tri-County of they will give me the $125 I paid back to put toward the more expensive option of getting my personal vet to do the spay and the dental work. I don't even want to know how much that will be. I can say that right now all of my bank accounts are empty, and so is the rescue's bank account.
