I sent the petition off to the AFA.
It is beyond me who thinks up this filth and then assumes that it will attract people...(like the flies on schiese?)

Anyway...what a statement. After Family movies climb to the top like Narnia & Lord of the Rings...the networks think that the spiritual awakening in the country would jump at an "edgy" drama that includes a twisted version of Christ.--how deluded.

The writer says:
"I'm not making fun of Jesus," he said. "I never want to poke fun at religion or at Jesus. These characters are very spiritual people. They believe in God, they believe in Christ as their savior, and I think that's wonderful."

:yeahthat:

I really don't understand your indignation. God forbid (pun intended) they have a show where a priest talks to Christ!

I don't see what the big deal is. It's just TV...if you don't like it don't watch it.

Allright, young lady. Stop making sense! We must not allow people to have free will! We must dictate our morals onto everyone else! Isn't that what the Bible says?

Oops, that's right, it is not what the Bible says. So where do zealots get it from?

A lot of trash TV has regular followers. There's nothing new here.

Touted as the riskiest show of the year, it includes a wife who relies on mid-day martinis, a 16-year-old daughter who is a drug dealer and a 16-year-old adopted son who is having sex with the bishop's daughter. At the office, the priest's lesbian secretary is sleeping with his sister-in-law.
Hey...
They forgot the homeschooling, gun-toting mom.
The American Family Association says the people at NBC responsible for the program "consider it a good, religiously oriented show typical of Christian families."
Uh...sure. Someone might regret that statement when the sponsors fall out due to those typical Christians boycotting their products.

If you're shut-in some afternoon, watch any one of the daytime Soaps. Horny ministers, lots of fairy's and of course, incest! OMG!

I hear that these shows are a bit popular.

Monty Python took some heat from Christian groups for "Life of Brian."
One point of contention was a mass crucifixion scene at the end. I thought their reaction was strange, since crucifixion was a common punishment in the Roman Empire during Christ's lifetime. (I haven't seen "Spartacus" so I don't know if Kirk Douglas and company met their end on the cross.)

But "Life of Brian" had nothing to do with Christ and wasn't trying to satirize Him. One of my favorite scenes is where a crowd mistakes Brian for a messiah. Fleeing from his would-be followers, he loses a shoe and drops a gourd, and the crowd divides into Shoe-ites and Gourd-ites.

The scene below has the movie's central message:

<table border="0" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" width="100%"> <tbody><tr><td valign="top">Brian</td> <td valign="top">Please! Please! Please! Listen! I've got one or two things to say!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Crowd</td> <td valign="top">Tell us! Tell us both of them!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Brian</td> <td valign="top">Look, you've got it all wrong! You don't need to follow me; you don't need to follow anybody! You've got to think for yourselves! You're all individuals!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Crowd</td> <td valign="top">Yes, we're all individuals!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Brian</td> <td valign="top">You're all different!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Crowd</td> <td valign="top">Yes, we are all different!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Man</td> <td valign="top">I'm not.</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Crowd</td> <td valign="top">Shhh!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Brian</td> <td valign="top">You've got to work it out for yourselves!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Crowd</td> <td valign="top">Yes, we've got to work it out for ourselves!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Brian</td> <td valign="top">Exactly!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Crowd</td> <td valign="top">Tell us more!</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Brian</td> <td valign="top">No, that's the point! Don't let anyone tell you what to do! Otherwise...</td></tr> <tr><td valign="top">Mandy</td> <td valign="top">That's enough! That's enough!</td></tr></tbody> </table>

What did Christ say to Nicodemus?

Was He talking about...everyone is accepted no matter what they believe?
Was he talking about perversion being normal and everyone will just have to get used to it?
Was He saying that its a piece of cake to get into heaven?...just be nice?

The answer is none of the above.
Nicodemus was a Priest...well connected, on the Temple council. And did Christ have a friendly chat saying that all the old rule are gone?

NOOOO. Ye must be born again--a total change in lifestyle, not just a sprinkle from some priest and a few coins in the offering plate. A truly wicked people ignore God's principles, put on the veil of false decency, and then yell at everyone "Don't Judge ME!"

"Truly I say unto you, it is easier to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."

now...tell me all about this squishy, non-judgemental pseudo-christ who passes off little pithy pieces of advice and says everybody is doing fine.

Well that's a great verse to attract followers! What the Holy crap is wrong with you people?

Our Minister loves the Chronicles of Narnia....

I suspect God frowns on the judgemental far more than he does on the lost!

Read above! Quote by Kain.. Live it and Good God, Learn from it!

In other words, if you learn from birth to be good, and commit no sins, you cannot be saved because you are not "born again". You must change your lifestyle and become evil, and then you will be saved.

Do you even read what you write before you send it?

Sorry MM...

Paul points out in Romans multiple times that in being saved....it is not a license to sin more. And no...there is no such thing as "being good all your life". (For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God) Rom 3:23

You haven't quite sorted out what is necessary for salvation have you?
And yes...I proofread everything I post.

Kain...what you suspect...may be based on Christ getting fairly harsh on th teachers of the Law (Pharisees...etc) He was just as harsh on his wicked generation. God had very little patience with generations of Israelites who KNEW his laws...and chose to ignore them.
DO NOT believe that Christ's teachings were always simple and easy...He addressed simple messages to the young & naive....and difficult & pointed lessons to the academic leaders.

It's twisted because it doesn't fit into his interpretation of Christ is. I guess he's uncomfortable with Christ speaking to a sinner. Only the perfect, such as Hessian have earned that right. That is why he is the thought police.

I can't just repent, I must be "re-born?" I don't quite understand.

Christ DOES talk to sinners - all of us are sinners, including all the clergy of the world. Some of us are saved and some aren't. Christians work very hard to make their lives proper testimonies to the Lord, obeying the commandments and living consistent with the laws and the values contained in the Bible. We do it because we love the Lord and want to please Him. So the "Typical Christian Family" isn't nearly interesting enough to hold the attention of the "Typical TV Watcher." My answer is to not watch the crap.

I don't understand how this is that atypical. Are there gay priests? Are there priests who have alcoholic wives? And promiscuous kids? Sure, it's stretching things to put them all together, but why the outrage? It looks to me like you have normal people with all of their faults, dealing with their issues. What's the problem?

I won't be watching it because i have no interest, but why call for it to be removed? Isn't there something to be said for having the oppurtunity, but deciding to do what you think is right? Where does the censorship end?
