Hi,

A close female friend of mine is going through a tough separation and is going to need a really good divorce lawyer. She lives in St. Mary's. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Please include address and contact number if possible (or at least the town where they're located).

Thanks.

Amicable or foot on the throat? For foot on the throat, call Edward Reynolds (301-863-7054 ) or Dave Densford (301-475-5055). For amicable, go with just about anyone.

Amen to that! It is,however, more fun to watch em squirm as they realize that they will not get their way entirely. Amicable? There's no such thing as a friendly divorce. Put up your fists and fight like hell! Personal preservation is always a top priority in these cases. If there are kids involved, don't use them as leverage by any means. Just because somebody couldn't keep their zipper up doesn't mean the kids should get dragged through it.

lawyer

Sam Baldwin is without a doubt the best all around lawyer period. He helped me in my divorce and did an outstanding job. He is located in Lexington park.

It doesn't really matter who you get, and who couldn't keep their zipper up or skirt down. Maryland law says 50/50 no matter what and that's 50/50 on everything, i.e. 401K's, home equity, military retirements, savings, checking, college funds, etc. Child custody and child support are a separate issue and even those figures are pretty cut and dry as to how much is paid, etc. The only thing adultery charges get you is an immediate divorce and custody of the kids. For the adulterer it's a whopping $10 fine.

Well, there are some lawyers out there that do their homework more than others. Mine had a 20 step battle plan laid out for me the minute I hit the door. There are some things that no one should settle for, and 50/50 isn't always the case.

Only one problem with not being willing to settle for 50/50, it's Maryland law, but then that depends on the Judge if and when it goes to court. He or she can give up to 50%, even with a military retirement (no more than 50), but it would be tough getting more. Believe me, this is all from personal experience.

It sounds like your personal experience was with a lazy lawyer. A good lawyer with the right information about his adversary can get concessions you never dreamed of. Maryland law is for rubber stamp divorces, don't get a rubber stamp lawyer. The down side is, he wasn't cheap.
