After doing a search for carpet cleaning, I found this thread @3 days ago. I have been dry cleaning my carpet with Capture (Sears) and it has worked great for 7years, but couldn't handle the pee stains from a neighbor's dog that got in our house 
Any way, after reading @ machines, repairs, etc. I wasn't sure I wanted to buy one, and I thought a cleaning service would problably charge extra (read the small print) for "heavier" stains... I went to Giant and rented a Rug Doctor, $30 with attachments for upholstry. It worked great and 24 hours was enough time to do all the carpets in my house + our couch. Just thought I'd share.
