OK....a little background....

About a year ago I took my daughter to a talent agency to audition for commercials, print work and sitcoms.....the audition went well and the little DQ loved it....they then called back and said that Ash had alot of potential but needed these classes, you know basically come give us your money, but we won't guarantee anything.....I could smell a scam so said no.....

Tonight I get a call it is the same agency, a year later, saying that they have an agent flying out this saturday and really want ash there......this costs me nothing for her to audition....

So my question is should I take her or do you guys think it is just part of their grand scam to get my money???

But wait, there's more...
Take her ... if they try to scam money out of you, tell 'em to pound sand. Where is it?

How old is she, Tina? I'd ask her if she wants to go, but remind her that it doesn't mean anything will come of it. Legitimate agencies don't ask you to pay for classes, just like a legitimate employer wouldn't expect you to pay for your training. If it's something you want to look into doing for real, the least that could happen is that she gets a feel for the atmosphere.

The only way they can get your $$ is if you give it to them..... You're a smart girl, go with your gut instinct. If they demand/require money then & there, RUN!!!

Oh and always ask us super smart forumites.

Exactly... and let's get for real... you know how many kids have come and gone since yours in a year... they wouldn't be hard up to hunt you down unless you were simply a sucker named on their sucker list...:ohwell:

But I am not a sucker.....I told them flat out last time that I refused to pay for anything, and that if they thought they had potential they would pay for the classes, to get their name attached to her before someone else did.....I definately made a point that the wouldn't see a dime from me....so I am pretty sure that I am not high on their list of suckers.......

Do it but be wary. When I was at Ch. 10, one of my clients was a "modeling agency" They'd get these young gals in there and charge them enormous $$$ to do basically nothing. The only jobs I think any of them ever got was trade stuff with us.

BTW, Darren Farrell at Images is a FANTASTIC photographer if you need a portfolio. He's one of our sponsors now but I've done work with him for years and he's the best.

I recommend against it. I figure the same as others - I smell a scam. And driving to Rockville and back is one of my least favorite things to do - I'd rather have a root canal than go up there. I grew up there when it was a LOT less populated. I'm glad I no longer have a reason to go there.

Screw the money. Can you name a child actor/star that became succesful and then went on to become a well adjusted adult?

Do you have any idea how many children are in the "business"?? Way more than the few you hear about......

Here are a few that are still going today and seem to be ok:

Michael J. Fox
Jessica Simpson (she's stupid, but seems to have her head on straight)
Ashley Olsen (Mary-Kate had her eating disorder, so she is out)
Raven Symone

and here are a few child stars that you hear NOTHING about and in Hollywood no news is good news:

Candice and Kirk Cameron
Jodie Sweetin
Tina Yothers
Jonathon Jackson

Anyway, I wasn't trying to argue the big picture.....just trying to figure out if I was being scammed.....I certainly have no desire to have Ash to be any where near as big as some of the child stars.....but she loves to act and has since she was about 3 and did her first play, if it is something she loves, how can I deny her the opportunity to do something with it?

Is there anything local that you could involve her with that would allow her to exercise her talents while living a relatively normal life? I know your question was about being scammed - and I think that's likely - but I was also trying to think of alternatives for you.
