Get this kitten to someone that knows how to take care of it..

1. warm it..
2. never feed a cold kitten
3. KMR is what is needed and it can NOT go through the night without food..
4. do you have the mother??

I did, because in all honesty I was scared to death that I would do more harm then good. It slept on and under a heavy towel last night. when I feed him, I wrapped him up in the towel as well. I did see him shiver and when that happened, I held him close to me for warmth.

Last night when we found him, I know it was wrong, but I had nothing else and I gave him Vit D milk (warm). I was unaware that they couldnt go through the night without eating and I am at fault for that. When we woke up I gave him more Vit D milk and then got the KMR and he really seemed to perk up quite a bit.

Nope I have no clue who the mom is, I didnt think I had any ferals that were pregnant. Inkpen thought that maybe an eagle or something similar could have gotten ahold of him, hence the wound in his shoulder. If that is what happened, he may have been picked up from down the road and dropped off in my yard.

He was a little guy, I looked up kittens on the internet, he seems to be about a week to two weeks old. His eyes were shut yesterday and he was trying to open them today.

He was just the cutest thing and my son just feel so in love with him.

When does Inky get him/her? I bet he does not make it much longer..

She came across as very caring and knowlegable and knew exactly what was wrong with his shoulder. I think inkpen will take good care of him.

I am a total idiot when it came to caring for this little guy and I think he would have been in worse hands by being with me.

It's not Inky I am worried about...

Some things are better to keep to yourself.

Yeah my "gut feeling" is talking...sorry

Oh no. :frown:

Good luck, Dawn. Now I'll read the rest of the thread to make sure Catt or Paso or Stinkpen has given you instruction. If they haven't, I'll post back.

Catt and I posted the exact same thing at about the same time...Glad someone got the kitten that knows something (we hope lol) Too bad Catt could not have gotten it...Kitten has had a hard at least 48 hrs..I hope it makes it but my gut says no..I don't like the curled cold look it has..the puffy coat is only good if it were an exotic SH kitten which I am sure it is NOT...and a fed cold kitten will not make it..warm meaning 101 or higher..human body is not that warm and left to him self in a blanket will not do it..he can NOT maintain his own warmth at this age...I wish the kitten the best of luck he would be a cute one I am sure..

Hi myname is Dawn i'm a vet technician, to simulate the using the bathroom process take a warm gauze or cloth and rub there pee pee's for lack of a better word. u should get some milk replacement and a syringe they usually eat about every two hours. Yes, that means if u r going to help it u need to get up every two hours...LOL U can also call your local vet office.. Alot of technicians will foster the kittens until they r old enough to find good homes. My animal hosp. # is 301)292-1150 and thank-u for your kindness and wanting to help the little one... :)

Thank you very much. I think I used to go to your animal hospital when I lived in Oxon Hill (if it is the one by winegardner) and I loved the doctors there. I have given the kitten to a lady that I think will take great care of him, she was going to give him antibotics for his wound and keep him warm. When we met up, she immeidately wiped him and he started peeing, but he had releived himself on me early that morning. She said he urine was a good color which meant he had been with his momma within the last 24 hours, so I have hope that he will be ok.

Thanks but I am tearing up thinking that I may have done more harm than good, and I dont want to have to learn what to do the wrong way. I am going to call inky to check on him.

Ok..all is well.. And Vria..it is Inkpen..

Kitten is 6 7/8 ounces as of yesterday. that makes him about 9-10 days old.
Small abcess on right shoulder..only wound I could find..and I looked!
Wound cleaned and flushed and treated.
Kitten on antiboitics.
He is now sleeping in heated container with a stuffed animal to snuggle with.
doing Ok with the bottle...has pooped 2 x..solid, well formed.

Think momma tossed him out due to leg.

Paso..He has a very good chance of recovery!!

Here are 2 photos:
First one shows the bowed left leg.

Dawn, you did it all right!!!!
You rescued him for the elements...it did rain again yesterday.
You fed him..and cows milk was OK for the time being. His poop was OK.
(How many of us give cats a bit of milk now and then??)
You got him warm and dry...
You did all the right things that you knew to do. :huggy:

You found him help...and learned about abcesses..( just like a giant zit)
You learned how to stimulate...and what the color of urine means.

As Catt said..we all have to learn at some point in our lives!!

good job!!

And I call him Wally White Cat.

I love those pictures, much better than I was able to take. I guess since you have him feeling better his personality is really coming out!

Thank you. I was at the football game and my friend heard the cries about 6. She left the house for about 2 hours and when she got back the kitten was still there. She watched from inside (it was under my sons window) and around 11 the momma still had not come back, so she picked it up and brought it to some beds we have on the porch for the feral cats and when we got home about midnight, she said that no cats attempted to have anything to do with the kitten, I figured after 6 hours, the momma would have been back, so I brought him in and gave him some milk and a safe place to sleep. I dont know who the momma is, I didnt realize we had any cats that were pregnant. We have the same cats that come around everynight and more or less they are comfortable enough with us that they lay in the yard and on the porch at any given time of the day. The last two that delivered, we were able to catch and get fixed.

I have never had anything so small and frankly, I was afraid I would do something wrong.
