Sorry, ETC, but thats not a smart car, check the wheel you can see under the bumper of the back dump truck. Looks like maybe a Nissan wheel, but its certainly not any of the wheels offered on a Smart car.

There is a video of the crash test of a full size Mercedes against the Smart Car. It will give most people second thoughts on owning one.

The concept behind the Smart Car is to put two cars in one city parking space.
While that works in Europe, a lot of folks here drive what they consider international distances on their daily commute.

If you put two Smart cars in one space who has to put the Quarters in the meter?

Dont get me wrong, most cases, the Smart is going to take it in the shorts.

IIHS Crash Test: Smart ForTwo vs. Mercedes-Benz C-Class | Straightline Blog on Edmunds' Inside Line

The Smart does do better than you would expect, but even so, pay close attention to what happens after impact. for the Mercedes driver, event over, while the Smart driver (and car) is still violently pirouetting around. If this is in traffic, Id call that a good chance for a secondary. And thats a Mercedes C class, two steps down the size line. My car, call it E-class size? Not pretty for the Smart. Is this a knock on the engineering? Nope, only so much you can do with so little masss, and they did a great job. But its a small car, and thats the risk you take buying a small car.

Still I look to find a reason to believe....

I don't know. Looks like Smart hadn't finalized its hubcaps when these accidents occurred. But they all look pretty common to the one in the OP picture.

I would love to see what my old 79 Buick LeSabre would do to the Smart ForTwo. It did that to a 94 Plymouth Sundance, coming out only with a dented bumper.

DO some omre digging. Pics one and three are not even a Smart car. Its a VW CrossFox

http://www.encontracarros.com/upload/volkswagen/vw-crossfox_02.jpg

Note the rear mounted spare, and the wheels. Pic 2 is a smart car, but the wheels are not the same, the spokes are actually two thing spokes next to each other.

Looked over at the smart forums, where of course they took issue with the first pic. The did find some oddities about it. the company name has been photoshopped out in the lead truck. The windows in the front truck have been blacked out. Amublance has no lights going, no emergency workers in sight. After a little more, found this.....

According to them, its a Ford Escape.

In the pics Lenny posted, you can see what looks like the word "Cross" in the 3rd pic along the bottom of the car. That, plus the rear-mounted tire says it's a CrossFox.

I bet if we put a Hummer up against a dump truck at those speeds the passengers would be just as dead.

Bob, if your referring to pics #1 and #3 in Lennys post, dont be so sure. Heres a Magnum that did the offset crash with a semi, real world. Driver did have two broken legs, and one broken arm, but that was it. Wish I knew how to crosspost pics here.

If you really want to kill yourself? - LX Forums Modern Mopar Muscle

One of the members there knows one of the first responders. Speed limit is 55mph, no sign of braking, Magnum swereved into the semis path last second, possible suicide attempt. Estimated impact speed, given both vehicles at the limit is at least over 100mph.

Maggie lost, but that semi knew it was in a fight!!!!

You mean a BIG Mercedes, versus a LITTLE Mercedes??

I've seen the footage of the SMART being run into a concrete barrier at 70 MPH and the results were pretty amazing.

Passenger compartment was fully intact.
