Needed: Landscaping

New to somd forums and in need of help. I am a first time home buyer and in need of landscaping assistance in my back yard. I have been doing a little at a time and have accomplished much, but need a helping hand since my body can't take much more hard labor. I need a contact with experience in residential landscaping (professional or non-professional) which includes removal of bushes, ivy (already killed the ivy), mulch, wood border, and soil in flower bed. Also not looking for anyone that is pricy. If anyone can assist me, I would greatly appreciate it.

But wait, there's more...
That much work is gonna cost you a few pennies ... unless you can find an illegal alien who understands enough English to do it for you. :ohwell:

I don't think that it would be more than hour and a halfs work for 2 people to do. Its about 6 feet long, 3 feet wide, and no depth. There are only 2 bushes inside it. I wouldn't pay no more than $120.00 total to get it done.

which includes removal of bushes, ivy (already killed the ivy), mulch, wood border, and soil in flower bed.

depending on the size of the bush and the root structure I would estimate this closer to 2 hours for two people actual on site time.
so lets say they make 12 an hour, after tax and workers comp is added in the one paying that 12 per hour is actaully going to pay closer to 14 and hour.
on site time of 4 hours total at $14.oo = $56.00
drive time min 1/2 hour each way for a total of 2 more hours = $28.00
fuel charge (3+ bucks a gallon) 15 min.
taking brush to dump, another hour $28.00
mulch 11.00 bought in bulk 1/2 yd min
border single height wood 10.00
1/2 yd topsoil 16.oo
1/4 yd leaf mulch 8.00

right now we are at 172.00
if its a business, do they get to make a penny or two to cover the overhead stuff like the truck payment or insurance or maybe enough of a profit for the owner to maybe get a day old cheese burger at McDonalds?

120 is a little bit unrealistic to get any professional company to come out and do that.

you might just look for Pedro and son and see if you can convince them to do the work if you supply all the stuff to do it.

Didnt mean to sound ignorant on that last post but, to be honest, most companies can not afford to move a truck unless there is at least a half day charge attributed to it when it comes to landscaping.
Small jobs like you have to do can not be done in a price range that makes them profitable and a value to the customer.

when a truck pulls out with a crew in it, that half day charge has to apply in order to make overhead.

If I were you I would look to do additional work to fill a full half day and make it worth your while, or find someone that is not insured or in the business to do it.

3-4 hours work? Can't you do that lil bit yourself over the span of 2 weekends?

For a single woman with a bad back that works full time and pursuing a masters degree right after work...um yeah its pretty hard to do myself. I didn't post here to have people tell me that I can do this myself. I posted here for contacts of people that can do the job or want to help me. I am not firm on pay, I can negotiate. What the heck do I know about landscaping...didley squat, so I'm sure that the amount of work could actually lessen or expand, causing possibly more bucks for the work. Oh well!

Why, thank you very much. Seriously, you may want to send Dowhat a PM. I think he has been not feeling well lately, but he was offering to do side-jobs.

interesting take on the situation.
so
here is mine.

when it comes to business, and charging a price to do a certain job, generally speaking those that do the job on a professional basis KNOW what it is going to cost to do it. Believe it or not, most sales people, business owners etc... have a pretty good idea of what they have to charge.

now, every once and a while you will get a new customer that feels he or she knows what the business needs to charge better than that owner, and this person will sit there and try to dictate what they are going to pay.
It just does not work this way.

Im not sure what you do for a living but I can with great certainty assume that you know better than I do what your time is worth and what the market will allow when it comes to your pay. Im sure that if I looked at your job and told you that you would do it for me for 1.25 an hour you would not work for me.

See, I run into people almost every day that try to dictate how much I will charge, how long it will take, what my overhead should be etc... and basically, I just as nicely as I can tell them to try another company, because I just cant do it for their expectations.

I guess what Im trying to say is that when you are in a certain business and you know what you have to have to maintain your profit margin (thats what the business owner gets paid from) those people that will try to tell you what you will charge them are in fact considered the a-holes.

before you call other people here a-holes for just having a good time, maybe you should look real close at the way you try to conduct business in your own life.

hint, for what you want done and the cost of the materials, to do it for your 120 dollar limit, you might want to find a couple of the neighborhood kids that are willing to do it.

just trying to be helpful
