( 7/7/2004 ) Jesse Jackson says NASCAR should feature more African-American drivers because "negroes can drive cars fast." Jackson made the remarks on Tuesday, the day of the sports luncheon at the 33rd Annual Rainbow/PUSH Coalition conference in Chicago, while waiting to introduce Sen. John F. Kerry. "One thing I know, negroes can drive cars fast," Jackson said to laughter. "I mean, we go through red lights, even [drive] at night with our lights off. We can drive cars fast," he asserted from the podium.

I thought you weren't even allowed to say Negro in public any more. I could be wrong, but I always got the impression that if I called a black guy a "negro" that would be just offensive as calling him a n*.

As for Jesse Jackson, who coined such marvelous phrases like "people of color" (but never say 'colored people'), I thought that African-American was the current moniker of choice.

I give up.




And also as near as I can tell, the reason that there are no negroes driving in Nascar is because all negroes view race car driving as a redneck activity and have no desire to partake in the festivities.

Kinda like hockey.

Jesse Jackson is the ultimate hypocrite. Has that sum##### ever done any real work in his entire life ? The guy makes me I cannot believe that any black person would ever take what he says seriously on any subject. He and Marion Barry are two of a kind in my estimation.

Perhaps Mr. Jackson need to become a little more familar with history before making such rediculous comments.

Wendell Scott was a black driver who raced in the early 60's.

How many people really know what the drivers look like? For all we know, there may be a dozen black drivers in NASCAR. It seems like the Busch Series drivers aren't as well known as the ones in the Nextel Cup.
