Neighbor dog...

Silence!!! I Kill You!!!
The neighbors dog came after me this weekend, came within feet of me like it was going to attack me...ON MY PROPERTY, probably 50 yards from its property. So...if this dog comes at me again, and I happen to have my shotgun...can I shoot it and not get into trouble? I do have a young son, so my tolerance for this type of animal in the neighborhood is low...but I don't want to get into trouble should someone see me eliminate the nuisance should it come after me again!

You will be cited for discharging a weapon in a neighborhood. Call the dog catcher.

I think the dog has to attack you first, then you can kill it, as long as it's not on the owners property.

It is actually over 10 acres, so I would be more than 150 yards away from a residence...we have a shooting range on the property so the gunshots wouldn't be a problem...However, the dead dog might be! :lmao:

They may want to know why you went into the house to get the gun and then shot the dog when you could have stayed in the safety of your home. Call the po po.

How did your neighbor respond when you discussed the situation with them?

First time: Talk to the owner and call animal control

Second time: Shoot towards the dog, but do not shoot it. Talk to owner. Call animal control

Third time: Shoot the dog

But, this is only if the dog is threatning and not some cute Bird Dog that just wants to lick you and get a free handout

Sure it was a dog?
Not a local coyote?
If a coyote, then you can shoot it.
Coyote are considered a pest species by DNR.
Dogs and coyotes look a lot alike ya know...

Please do not shoot a dog in front of your young son. Act like a normal freaking person and call animal control.

You can shoot any dog on your property that you feel is a threat to your or your livestock.

I thought you liked animals?

If your livestock is in danger, you have the right to protect it.
Same goes with deer damaging crops that are 51% of your income.
Farmers win, animals loose...the law.

If you are the guy who lives up by New Market with a shooting range on your property, the dog you speak of was put down on the 21st of April. If you are not, please follow what most are saying, talk to the owner, if that does not work, call animal control and have them talk to the owner, they will work it
