New Corvette bursts onto the road after 9 years

You do realize that the Z06 is the C6 'vette; and the 2014 Stingray is the C7.....

Unlesss I'm mistaken, the ZO6 is a variant of the C6, like my SRT is a version of the Charger. C6 just indicates that the car is a sixth generation Corvette, any model year from 2006 to present, while the ZO6 indicates a certain set of options like engine and suspension and tires, for instance.

The 6 in ZO6 dosent have any connection to the 6 in C6, it's a code going back to the 60s to indicate the highest performing variant in the Corvette line. So there could very well be a ZO6 2014 Corvette

I thought it looked like it borrowed a little from the Viper, too. I think they also borrowed a little from the geometric design of the Z4.

No innovation, nothing new to see here..

Stealing other's ideas of design doesn't make a great NEW car.. just another marketing gimmick to get people to NEED to own the NEWEST model..

And the lemmings will be at their dealerships with their checkbooks open..

Exactly, the Z06 is usually not available the first year of any new generation of corvette. I expect to see it available in the 2015 or 16 model.

I can get to 60 in 3.3 seconds thats fun to me.

I have to admit that the performance numbers for Z1R and Z06 vettes are very good by any standard....Enzo's included. Very few production cars have 0-60 times like that and...and sub 12-second 1/4-mile times.

Sub 12? I'm talking about sub 11 right off the showroom floor.

Utter bull####. The better drivers achieve mid 11s. As this compilation of the 26 fastest times shows:

******The Current Top 26 Average Bone Stock, Stock Tires Category C6 Z06 Fast List Splits*****

60'.............1.861 secs
330'...........X.XX secs
660'...........X.XXsecs
660’ mph.....XX.XXmph
1000'...........X.XX secs
1320'..........11.504 secs
1320’ mph…. 124.203 mph

Of course anything below 12 seconds is pretty remarkable for a production ride.

Um I think you are not fully I formed off all the corvette options currently available. I can walk into a Chevy dealer tomorrow and buy a 650 Hp z06 that will run low 11's all day long or high 10's with very good driver.

I think you might be confusing whats possible with whats normal. What a great driver can do in November at MIR or Englishtown, that's not whats normal. Averages are just that.

I've owned a couple of 11 sec factory cars and raced one of them at MIR. Took me about 25 runs over the course of 3 years before I saw my first 11 sec run in that car. A friend who'd made over 100 runs at MIR in his own 9 sec car, made about 5 runs in my 11 sec car but never saw an 11. The drag strip has a way of bringing dreamers back down to earth in a hurry.

It's only not normal because most people don't shell out the cash to the dealer for the correct options to push their zo6 to zr1 performance levels. It is easily attainable though.

Actually...that 11.5 average was for the best (top 26) documented Z06 1/4-mile times from various tracks including MIR. Straight from the Z06 owners forum.

Until MrZ06 posts a scan of one of his own time slips......:coffee:

Link(s) to that 650HP option? Thanks. All I can find is stuff like this:

The racing-inspired Corvette Z06 is equipped with the 505-horsepower (377 kW) LS7 7.0L (427 cubic inches) engine and built on a lightweight chassis.

The 2012 Z06 offers 0-60 performance of 3.7 seconds in first gear, quarter-mile times of 11.7 seconds at 125 mph and a top speed of 198 mph.

That. I raced a '66 Mustang for a couple years that was well built for the time and it was considered quite quick at 12.5 seconds.

That was at the 75/80 Dragway up in central MD and a long time ago. Panteras built like mine can and do break through the 12-second barrier and in to high 11s..but I won't risk busting the ZF tranny trying to drag race mine when a replacement tranny costs 7 or 8 grand.

We are agreeing. The average ZO6 owner wont really have any hope of hitting even mid 11s, it takes a skilled driver with a large negative DA to hit it. So, the way I always phrase it when talking about such things is that the car is capable od such and such, but that the average owner will most likely only ever see .3 to .5 slower.

Like my car, I know it is capable of pulling a high 12 time, if I hit MIR when it's under say 50 degrees and the DA is underwater, but other than those conditions, low 13s is the best I could reasonably expect.
