New Hotel in California

From the Washington Post:

Permits Approved: California - Hickory Hills Lodge, 22674 Amber Dr. A permit for a three-story hotel and pool. 07-2390

Christ, they spend truckloads of money to upgrade a road to handle all the existing traffic, then add more vehicle traffic. I'd really like to know when we will ever see FDR Blvd become a reality.

Damn I was hoping that had gone away. They cleared the land a while ago and it has just been sitting ever since.

That big area up front that is cleared of trees is the hotel site. With a name of Hickory Hills Lodge, it won't be from one of the hotel chains...will this be a new local no-tell motel where husbands/wives take there boyfriend/girlfriend for a one night stand?????

(cue "Your Cheatin' Heart" music....)

FDR is being completed in pieces. Amber Drive will become part of FDR. The road behind Target, Giant, Lowes, and BJs is another section of FDR which wil eventually be joined with the Amber Dr section via the road behind K-Mart. The county is relying on developers to complete as much of FDR as possible because the state is not providing funding.

Ask the guys who approved it - oh that's right - the developer was part of the board that decided...

It's dead after Lowes and probably will be for a loooooooooooong time.
Nothing behid K-Mart & Walmart

And I don't see anytjhing from Chancellors Run Rd south to Millison Plaza in the near future either.

Heaven forbid there is an alternative road, it might encourage development. Better to put all the access points on 235 and slow it down some more. I believe the idea is that if we can congest 235 to the point of gridlock people won't want to develop land here and will go to a more urban area.

I heard that wasn't happening. That they were going somewhere else or building an overpass but it wouldn't happen for a very long time.

It's not going anywhere else and there are no overpasses. The county's intent is to have developers (it's called extortion if the government isn't involved) build it in sections. The problem is just that - sections. The "section" from Navy housing in First Colony to K-Mart might be a long time in coming.
From K-Mart to Hickory Hills (Chancellors Run Rd) I don't see a road. Right now the alternative route is thru parking lots .

The state sees no need, somewhat sarcastic in my shot at the Glenndening "Smart Growth" policies which deemed almost all infasctructure an invitation to development. The first vision I heard was that it would be a feeder road, using it as the primary entrance/exit route for the all the strip centers along 235 made sense. Limit the access points on 235 would improve traffic flow. Instead we add more driveways and don't enforce proper use of the TURN lanes. So instead of better traffic management we get more accidents as people treat the turn lanes as high speed thru ways or acceleration / merge lanes. They were meant to allow drivers to pull over and THEN slow down for a turn - there by not slowing traffic down on the main road.

I have a copy of the entire development plan. Wanna see?? It's very interesting. I'll give you some hints......... 5 restaurants, a bank, townhouses, office space and a retirement community. How's that for starters???? And that's just that development. There's more :coffee:

and your hotel that you speak of

Nothing is dead. It's mapped all the way from Wildewood to Lexington Park Elementary School. That's why the county bought Roses II. That building will make way for FDR.

You are right in the amount of time it will take to complete the whole thing. Probably another 20-30 years from now.

Where is there room for that? That hotel backs up to a pond. Isn't that protected?

The "age restricted multi family" units will be to the right of the pond closer to Shady Mile Drive. The other stuff is all in front of the pond according to the map I have. The "pond" is actually a storm water management pond.

They bought Roses II to pacify the morality police. Wahoo, the imfamous strip joint is shut down, never to return again.
"FDR" from Great Mills Rd to 235 is a private road, it's not county owned and unless they buy out a lot of business and residential property it's never going to be connected.

They;ve drawn a line on the map and can now extort money from any builder who comes near that line.

Study your Maryland civics, this county can't blow it's nose without approval from Annapolis and it ain't coming.

Not in our lifetime anyway.

Okay well then explain...
The map has a circle around Hickory Hills which is the community we are talking about and Shady Mile Dr is highlighted also unless I'm missing something.
