I understand that and I'm not going for the million dollar package stuffed into a $2 bag. I'm limited to size due to the cabinets, but even with that, the choices are mind numbing.
Yes, they are. But I limited my choices to one store (which unfortunately has since gone out of business) and went from there. It helped to determine what exactly I wanted in each appliance, note the choices from their catalogs that fit the bill for features and size, and then physically go and look at them.

On a slightly different note, anybody have a ceramic top range and wish they got conventional coils instead?
No - gas cooktop. :yay:

Does this mean you are going to organize PT's baby shower?

Ya'll can have a baby shower for me...as long as all of the gifts are adult gifts. No babies in my present future. :yay:

But wait, there's more...
Nice kitchens definately help sell a house! That said, I wouldn't go with anything overly extravagant. Keep the rest of the house in mind, and think "function". A nice, flat-top stove/oven ... a fridge/freezer with an ice maker (minimum) or external water/ice dispenser. You're already putting in granite which is a really great perk. :yay:

PT, IMO, if I didn't like the appliances in a house I was considering... it would be a deal breaker and I'd look elsewhere. I don't think you have to go "top of the line" but I wouldn't go with the low end products either...
See, that's the difference between men and women. Appliances wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I'll put in what I want.

I'm thinking practical. If I am going to pay the price they want for houses nowadays... I don't expect to be forking over more money to redo a kitchen that just got done.

I agree with Crabbie's last post. Crabbie, your description was on the money...:yay:

Hey PT,

I've been watching a lot of the HGTV shows lately, in particular, Property Ladder. It's the whole "flip your house" scenario. The general consensus is that you should splurge, if you will, on nice appliances. There was a specific episode where the homeowner purchased Bosch appliances for her kitchen and the host, a real estate developer, informed the homeowner that the upscale appliances would sell her home faster.

Not saying you should purchase Bosch, hell I'd never heard of the brand prior to seeing the episode, but I think it would be helpful. :yay:

I don't know how long Bosch has been making appliances, but they've got an excellent reputation with Power tools. From what I can see, Bosch appliances are an intermediate level between like high end name brands (Fridgidaire, Kenmore, maytag...) and commercial stuff like Viking.

I am considering it, but they will double my appliance price tag but it may be worth it if I know without a doubt that they will be trouble free for 5-10 years, like American appliances USED to be. You can't count on an appliance being trouble free for even 3 years anymore. It's frustrating. Even adding "simple" conveniences like an ice dispenser DOUBLES your chances of having problems with your refridgerator iwithin 3 years.

PT you know what your going to think I am crazy but I got a fridge with a TV and radio on the door to the fridge (its a side by side) and its pretty cool..YOu can watch the cooking channel or your favorite tv show that you normally would miss while cooking dinner or listen to your favorite radio station whichever. We also have a dishwasher that is really quiet and a wolfe cooktop and they also make the stove and cooktop in one too and its the brushed stainless steel.

I removed a wall so that my 42" HD TV would be adequately veiwed from all points within the new kitchen. :yay: But I do like your thinking. :yay:

Kitchen applicances, you can't go wrong with Sears Kenmore. Next time I redo my appliances it'll be with stainless steel and a gas stove/oven.

I can't imagine that having a tv in/on the fridge door would be very helpful unless your fridge was positioned in a way to offer good viewing angles close up. I never thought about having a tv in the kitchen, though I do have a built-in shelf w/a cable outlet in there. I just don't watch enough tv for it to make sense. IMO, it's not something that would make/break my opinion of a house in terms of buying it or making it worth more to me. Having viewing access of the tv from the kitchen (e.g., kitchen open to family/living room tv) would be sufficient for me. :ohwell:

I have a ceramic top and love it vs conventional coils. The only thing that I don't like is that the top is black and shows every little thing burnt on there that can't be scraped off. I am definatly going for a different color top next time.

I too have a ceramic top and it's black. Never had that problem before. After it cools enough to clean, whatever has burnt on it I scrape off with the single edge razor blade (paint scraper) that came with it. I also clean/polish it with the ceramic stove top cleaner frequently. And from what I have seen and read using the polish regularily on the glass makes it easier to clean in the long run.

I saw one of them in Lowes. The idea seemed very strange since I don't watch a lot of TV. Then I got to thinking...it would be great for a man during his favorite sports season, move his chair into the kitchen so he can't mess up two rooms.

Where is the best place (best deal) to buy appliances?

I'd suggest shopping around Lowes, Home Depot and Sears and see if you can get a deal on a floor model. I bought my previous washer and dryer that way and saved a ton! :yay: Nine times outta 10, they give you the same warranty as if it was brand new out of the box, and it's a good way to get a higher-end product for less cost. Hell, it's just been sitting on the floor for show; it's not like it's been run, baked in, cooked on, washed in, etc.

If you have the room, get a fridge with the freezer on the bottom and the entire top is the fridge. I have several friends with those, and they are AWESOME. You have so much more fridge space (width wise). Plus you don't have to worry about the 5 lb frozen chicken falling out from the top of the freezer and taking off your toes. :yay:
