New Maryland Law - Wireless COMM Devices

I always thought that with the original talk/text law, you could get pulled over. No wonder I keep seeing so many drivers still doing it! I have a old dumb phone that I put on speaker, and set on the dash on one of those grabby rubber things. It works just fine; no extra cost for gadgets. I do try to limit my talking while driving, however.

At least you put it on speaker and set it on something. What I think is funny are the people that obvisously have their phones on speaker and are holding them just a few inches from their mouths. I guess they think as long as it's not against their ear it's legal.

Why is it only hand held cell phones? Studies after studies have show that hands free cell phones are just as dangerous. When will people realize you can not regulate stupidity. Using any kind of device that distracts you from your driving is illegal. It is called reckless driving and that is exactly what people using their hands free devices are doing.
But then Mr Bohanan would not be able to tell people how great he is in helping to pass these stupid feel good laws.
And for you never say anything bad about our LEOs they should not be exempt from the law. They should be pulling over to the side to take and receive calls. I have almost been hit twice by LEOs that were not paying attention to their driving while chatting on their cell phones. And yes I did make formal complaints to the appropriate department.
Have a good day

Every one of those studies I looked into were flawed in one very basic way. They all required the driver to keep the verbal interaction going no matter what, if they didnt, it wasnt considered valid.

With that stupid restriction, no wonder driver skill falls off. The key to talking and driving safely is simple task management, knowing when to SHUT THE HELL UP AND DRIVE!!!!! Telling whomever you are talking to that you are driving and to not mind the occasional silence while you shift focus works just fine.

Um...this has been illegal in MD for a while now (both texting and talking). It just went from a secondary offense (they can't pull you over just for that) to a primary offense and changed the punishment. Is there a problem with that?

Well. Thank goodness we can still eat cheeseburgers, spank our kids and put on mascara!!

Have no problem with the law whatsoever, my cell is on, maybe, 5 minutes a day...my life is no more full, nor interesting, nor do I have more to say post cell phone than pre-cell phone.

Hmmm, thats odd, becuase hearing a few of those conversations at stoplights, they certainly didnt seem official. Unless the barrack is asking the nice officer to pick up toilet paper.

Right...lol you heard a cop talking about picking up tp at a light. Sure you did. :killingme

You must not be an incredibly rude self centered bitch that needs to escape anything remotely unpleasant

I hope this is enough to stop violators and I hope that the maximum penalty is exercised to the fullest. During the last couple of days, two cars have crossed the center line and headed towards me. Our local roads have become very scary..or at least they are to me. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will be able to fix our dangerous intersections and penalize those who run red-lights.
End of rant.

This might not 'penalize' someone in the strictest sense of the word; but if there was a way to Wile E. Coyotely engineer a ramp that pops up out of the road where the white line is; where you're supposed to STOP when the light turns red; nothing that would send someone "Duke Boy-in it" thru an intersection. It doesn't even have to be very high; just 12-18" would suffice.
Decide to run a red light, then see what kinda "air time" you get.

It just amazes the hell out of me that we got by without cell phones for a long time, now people can't get in a car without talking on the thing. What is so dayum important that you have to be talking to someone the whole time you're in your car? :banghead:

I drive for the sake of the drive (or ride). My phone is off. My eyes are open. My mind is not distracted.
