New Maryland Law - Wireless COMM Devices

I'm not against cops. I'm against abuse of power.

My record is clean, and just about every encounter I've had with police has been nothing but professional.

I believe we do need law enforcement.

But giving cops special dispenstation for almost EVERY driving law, builds up hate and discontent.. How would you like to look behind you to see a cop yacking on THEIR cell phone, and he's stopping you to give you a ticket for doing the same?

I think the amount of "abuse of power" is a miniscule number. You should really get over it.

Any mention of talking on the cell phone on a bike??

I've got mine wired into the intercom so it rings into my (and my passengers) helmet, and can talk wirelessly (and hands free) if I have to.

How would they be able to tell if you're on the phone or not?

BTW, I'm looking forward to in-helmet Google Glass...
Take picture.
Start video.
Navigate home.

You get the idea.

There are laws that say you cannot wear headphones while driving, and by extension, headphones while riding, even if they are integral.

However, not sure anyone is going to ever stop you. I've never been stopped, have both of my helmets wired for stereo. Never got the phone wired in, never needed or wanted it.

bob, I plan to rig that for the Strom one of these days. sucks to get somewhere, only to find my reason to be there has become OBE, but i didnt get the word.

Hank, I agree, the numbers of bad cops are small, however, folks should not get over it. Maybe if officers were a little less accepting of other officers misbehaving, civilians might get over it more.

I think whenever you give certain people that much power, greed, and corruption go with it.

I think many abuses of power don't get reported, or they get blown off because police get the benefit of the doubt.

It happens often, and unless there are people to call their bluff, record, it, or say something, the cycle continues.

I agree there are cases where they can't get pulled over for speeding....I think we all can agree on that.

The problem lies in how does the general public know if the officer next time him at a stop light yammering on the phone is on official police business?

How does the general public know if the officer doing 70-80mph up rt.4 is on official police business?

We don't....we listen to them say, "it's official police business", and we accept it.

I think you are so far off.... You have no idea how under the microscope officers are departmentally and internally....

I don't know of any cops who are accepting of police mis-behaving. In enforcing the laws, I don't treat any cop any different than I would treat people who were not cops.

In examples of police brutality, there are instances where one, if not more than one cop is watching.

Do you honestly think that cop is going to go back to the barracks and tell the CO?

Don't blame the cops, blame the legislature.

Didnt say I blamed anyone, but the legislators didnt just say, when crafting the law, "Hmmmm, btw, lets exempt officers from this", someone had to approach them.

And you might not treat officers any differently, but admittedly you are a fairly small sample. :killingme Do the words "professional courtesy" and "officer discretion" mean anything to you? Just start talking about on the o.com forums, you will find a wide variety of opinions, in fact, some officers will curse out officers who say they will NOT extend these things to fellow officers.

How far does courtesy extend? How far does discretion go? Depends on the officer, and I will agree it's not as bad as it used to be, but if you want me to believe unofficial "tune ups" dont still happen, and officers dont get a wink and a nod from time to time, I will not believe you.

Blah.. Blah...Blah
Thats what kills me, I see tons of people driving in machines I know the capability is either standard or optional, and they are doing the hand to head thing. And even if it isnt, a damn module that clips to your visor and acts just as good costs about $30, so if you can afford the 38K SUV your driving, I know you can afford $30 for handsfree.

My car has the hands free option. I love it.

Why are you continually so against cops? Did something happen between you and the police? Do you believe we don't need law enforcement? I don't get it.

Do you believe they are above reproach, that they don't violate laws simply because...
I mean, we all know, it is well documented that cops and their families have a get out of jail free car when it comes to speeding tickets. There is no justification for this consideration.
Cops will tell you they know fellow officers that break the law, not major crimes, but stuff that other people go to jail for.
Ah, like smoking a litle weed maybe on the days off?
Cops are human, the screen process and training does nto make them exempt from the same behavior found in society in general. Hopefully it just means the vices are less.
They are human, they do make bad decisions, their emotions can cloud their judgement. Again, hopefully it's a at lower rate than the population in general.
But just because they have a badge and a gun doesn't make the entire force exempt from the problems that afflict the population.
And people that try and hide behind the "cop hater" label only enable bad abuse of power.
So get over it, just because someone questions the police, or the state's attorney, doesn't make them criminal haters.
We have a constitution, if we fail to hold all accountable, we give up our rights. Once we allow them to cede to the state you will never get them back.

Not only do I think that, I know it! I have seen in my career good cops turn in bad cops. I have arrested police officers. You make these assumptions without having factual information.

Since your interactions with police officers has been positive, the only logical conclusion for your disdain for police officers are the relative and friends you have mentioned were corrupt. If they are telling of their misdeeds, then turn them in.
