I wish I knew exactly where on Rt 5 near the beltway where the speed limit changes....so I'll be extra alert to the speed limits when driving to Falls Church next time. I drive to FC a couple of times a week as I have two very elderly parents (99 and 98) to bring them items they need or want, go through their mail, take them to a doctor appointment, etc. I was no where near St Philips as I took 495 W from NB Rt 5. I've never noticed a speed change in that area so will see next time I drive up there. Just some more paranoia I need in my life. HAHAHA....They're coming to take me away!!! HAHA!!!

what effect would speed cameras have on drivers if there was no associated penalty?

It would be nice to get a warning the first as this is my first speeding ticket. They could of looked at my records and see that I've never received a speeding ticket. Now my insurance will go up......OUCH!!!

I thought that speed cameras resulted in a civil citation (not a moving violation) and no points are assessed, thus no impact on one's insurance.

... if the system were going to asses points, that would have involved a Police Officer who could testify in court if need be, as Ken said ... this is an administrative thing

got my second one from there today, first was a warning. It's NB5 right before the Manchester Drive overpass. There are signs for reduced speed limit to 45mph and camera enforced for construction. It's definitely a money trap, construction doesn't start until after the Auth/5 lights so they are catching everybody driving like maniacs jockeying lanes down a hill from a 55 zone (nobody does 55 on RT5, if you do you'll get run over!).

Anyhow, it's a $40 civil citation that will not result in points or reported to insurance. Pay it and move on with life.

Thank you StadEMS3!!! Thank goodness my car insurance won't be affected. I never noticed that the posted speed limit changes there....guess I'm too busy looking for traffic so I can safely get in the lane I need to be in to exit onto 495W and not sideswipe anyone. People really go crazy in the stretch of road...........you have to careful cause people will decide at the last moment they don't want to head for Baltimore and will change lanes quickly. I'll be driving up to FC in a few days so will be watching.

Doesn't deter the redneck a$$wipes in huge ugly beater trucks that come up on your ass blaring the horn because you're ONLY doing 10 mph over and the open lane next to you is not good enough.

Was stopped for speeding (again) yesterday. I lay in bed last night pondering why......and realized that my current car (the only one I was stopped for speeding) is different from all my other cars since the 1970s and that is.....it's an automatic and not a stick shift! I really prefer a stick as I am in complete control of the car and I can tell by the car's motor sound about how fast the car is going. In this automatic I have now...I'm just rolling down the road. Sure wish it was a stick....so much more fun to drive than an auto :(

Well, if you are not going to buy a stick I recommend incorporating the speedometer into your scan (you have one right?) Failing that, you have a couple of options. Nav in the wifes new Jeep will actually tell you what the local speed limit is on that particular road, and warn you if you exceed it, think it even allows you to set a number above that. There are apps that perform the same sort of function.
