Hi everyone :howdy:

I was wondering if any of you could give me some info on which areas to stay away from as far as buying a house is concerned. I've heard negative things about Lexington , Park but while searching online found alot of nice homes there.

If not lexington Park, what other areas are affordable (decent)?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I moved from Lexington Park to Calvert County in 1972, and at that time property prices in Calvert County were very reasonable, but they have syrocketed astonishingly in the last dozen years or so. I'm not sure about property prices in St Marys.

Thanks Ornerypest

My primary goal is to buy a house in a decent area that's safe to raise my two daughters. I'm looking in the 300k to 350k price range. Is this a reasonable amount to spend to get a nice home in a good area?

How old are your daughters also... for school purposes...

Then I can tell ya what schools they would be going to IF you chose St. Marys county...

But Lex Park, means great mills which means NO...haha, I would NEVER let my kids go there... (I dont have none yet, but they wont go there )

I appreciate everyones honesty. It seems like there are some nice new developements in lexington park like Greenbrier. Are these areas less than desirable too?

If you are in the heart of Lexington Park it can be ghetto. You could live south of the base and be find. Park Hall Elementry is a great school.

Unfortunately, Lexington Park is one of the few densely populated areas and the only "city" type atmosphere in the county, therefore the crime rate is much higher. (Drugs, violence)

Although there are some beautiful homes in Great Mills and south of the base, that may mean Spring Ridge Middle School which is currently having a great deal of disciplinary trouble. Strong children can make it through Great Mills with a decent education and little trouble. Weak children (easily led, joiners, or perpetual victims) will have a poor experience at Great Mills.

If you are not looking to buy a new home (prices are astronomical) you can find good buys in Leonardtown, Hollywood, California, Mechanicsville, and Charlotte Hall.

Girlfriend, you need to get out of the house a little more. Lexington Park & city in the same sentence? :lmao:

Dumb question but where (town) are you working?

I'm in the Navy so i'll be working on base. I'm not looking for a brand new home but I am looking for a house in 300 to 350K range. Most likely my kids will go to school on base.

Housing porices in the area are pretty outrageous but i think I should be able to find something decent in my price range.

Thanks for all the replies.

Lexington Park is fine.....depending on which part. South of the base is a nice area. Lived there for a while now and never had any problems.

Hi welcome to the forum! :howdy: Just to clear up a misconception, the base does not have any schools.
