I know this will be deep-sixed but maybe it would be nice to NOT ASK for anything and just enjoy the people around you? We're in a recession. People don't have a lot of extra money, some don't have jobs. Just a thought.

i have to agree. You invite people to share in your happiness, not expecting gifts. For some, traveling to your wedding will be a big expense with no extra to spare.
