No bathroom doors!

I think the "no door on the toilet area" is not legal, however they can get away with it because they have concerns for the safety of the children

Report this crap to the state licensing board as well.

I wouldn't think that it was legal but they're a government agency and I wouldn't think that they'd break any laws. I'll take a look at the site. Thank you!

They have to provide appropriate privacy for the children to "do their business"....if there is no door and anyone can look at them, the daycare is not providing this privacy....even with concerns of safety, they still have to provide a level of privacy

I don't believe that the base owns the daycare unless it is run by Department of Defense....most daycares on military bases are owned by a company(kindercare, petite academy, etc) and they lease the facility to provide daycare for those that are working on base.

It's ran by the Navy CYP program thru the Naval District Washington. My receipt says NDWR. I filled out a crapload of goverment paperwork to register her.

What safety concern do they have that other pre-school programs aparently don't have?
Many years ago, my Daughter was in a Day Care without Privacy to the Rest Rooms. I asked why, and the Lady told me it is because they were afraid of a possible drowning, or a Child playing in the water. I thought then, and STILL think that even a small Child needs privacy when going to the Rest Room.

I know when my daughter was in the room with the half doors, she would hold it as long as she could. Many days when I got there to pick her up, she was about in tears because she had to go so badly. It boiled down to she didn't want anyone to see her go. Even at 3, she wanted privacy. I was happy when she moved up to the older room where they could use the bathrooms with regular stalls. She still won't poop there unless it's an emergency.

Ummm...are the teachers using this open bathroom as well? And I know when I did Navy CDH I would have never been allowed to get away with that. I don't think the CDC should be able to either.

While I wouldn't want this arrangement in my "classroom" nor would I want this for my children from what I've seen from googling it, it doesn't seem that uncommon so it is probably legal.

As someone who used to teach and work with kids, I feel like that would get distracting. I also feel like it could be embarrassing for kids going to bathrooms. I know most little kids don't have the same bathroom hangups and don't really care about privacy, but some might, especially if they were sick or something. Couldn't a half door (like a stall) or like someone else said a curtain be used?

:yeahthat:

Little kids may not be modest, or care about privacy - but forget teaching any type of modesty or respect for privacy of another person. Everything is out in the open - everyone is equal. No one is entitled to their own personal space. That is wrong.

They don't, but MAYBE somebody there would be willing to work something out..

I know they are looking for more enrollment, and I think the location would be about perfect for you..

Maybe a neighbor or someone nearby could keep her and take her over there when they opened?

youre not the only one. I have concerns about my own daycare, which otherwise I really like. but the infant room is inside the 2 year old room so parents of infants (and the two year olds parents, obv) walk through the room to get their children and the bathrooms in the two year old room are doorless as well. More than once when I was picking up monster I walked past a row of half naked children getting their ass wiped. It bothers me a little. I try to be logical in that with 2 year olds they need help and don't go on their own and it is only SOME parents who have to walk by..but at the same time every person deserves a little dignity and privacy..so I havent decided if its a deal breaker for me yet.

:yay:

I know of an agency where disabled adults who must have assistance in toileting are NOT changed out in the open, they are taken to a bathroom, and a sign is put on the door while that process is ongoing. The only people allowed in are the staff persons who work with that person. (procedures are in place, etc.)

When my mother was in a nursing center or hospital & had to be changed - her privacy curtain was pulled to protect her dignity.

Children should have the right to the same dignity & privacy.

Update!

I ended up pulling her out of this daycare, not just for the bathroom reason. A family member is watching her until the middle of April. So, I'm picking your brains for recommendations...

I have a 5 year old girl and will need care for her from mid-April through the first week of August. I prefer in-home care. I am just not fond of big centers. I travel from Lexington Park to Indian Head and back every day, so anything along that route will work. My work schedule in Indian Head is 0730-1600 (7:30am-4:00pm). I am currently leaving Lexington Park around 0540 and getting back around 1730-1800 (5:40am-6:00pm). I am having a hard time finding affordable care that matches with my schedule. If anyone has any recommendations please send me a PM. Thank you!
