"No tax on tips"

I’ve now been to three places in the last month where I order at the counter AND pick it UP at the counter - and when I use my card, it asks for a TIP.

Since it’s a food counter I can easily guess that they at least get paid minimum wage. All of them teens and not exactly stressful work.

Yeah, agreed. Something wrong with having tips for everything. Beginning to see the wisdom of other countries where tips are not expected and are a small nominal fee.

Those Domino's ads where the guy is asked for a tip for everything are true. If the govt drops taxing them can we tip less since they will get to keep more .?

I'll most likely continue with the amounts as I do now... it's for the service I receive, not for the amount I pay....just me. Right now I always try to pay the tip in cash even if I use a c/c for the reminding amount.

If it changes I'll just use the c/c for the whole amount... (cash back, ya know)

So? You don't have to tip and it's not expected. Just push the "no tip" button and that's that. No different than ignoring the tip jar by the register, or ignoring the bum on the street with his hand out.

I honestly don't understand why people get anxiety about the tip screen. Are you afraid the cashier is going to think you're a cheapo?

If Trump gets his way and there are no taxes on tips, you do realize that EVERY job will be expecting a tip, right? Employers would freeze salaries and the customer would be forced to make a decision of what to tip with basically every purchase.

Why wouldn’t you want to be paid in tips if they aren’t taxed?

Sounds like a nightmare for the customer, but I’m sure you folks will tell me why it’s such a brilliant idea from dear leader.

Absolutely.

And the sky will turn to darkness, the rain will fall like blood and the horsemen will ride over the world spreading war, famine, pestilence and death.

Brilliant enough that Kamala copied it, but you knew that, right?

Seems Kamala's endorsement of "Dear Leader's" plan shows how smart she thinks Trump is.

Harris endorses eliminating taxes on tips.

Vice President Kamala Harris has backed the elimination of taxes on tips for hospitality and service workers,

I just find it annoying - an unnecessary step - and it takes a bit of hubris. Like me asking for a tip because I held the door open for you.

The other thing about tips is, the automation for giving tips seems to have the bottom level be 20%. Meaning, you WANT to give a tip because they were REALLY good and worked hard to get your party what they wanted - but the three options besides "custom" are 20, 25 and 30.

This has just happened in the last so many years. When I was a kid, tip was typically 10. As a young man, it was around 15, which meant for me, take the TAX and multiply by three. Now they want a tip for a person who barely serviced your table and OFTEN - acted as though put upon for actually doing their job - like providing utensils.

My wife has generally operated on the premise that if they are attentive with refilling your drinks and respond to things quickly - they deserve a good tip - but if they are rude, they deserve nothing.

I don't much care about what they want, I tip by the way I am served..

Yep... that's how I feel also. Worked a "tip" job in my early 20's...

I did not expect a tip but I worked hard to earn them.

When I worked in DC, my office was in the same building as the L'enfant Plaza hotel. I was down in front of the building, near the hotel entrance when I saw this guy with a cane looking confused standing by the curb. I realized he was blind and was being ignored by the doorman of the hotel. I walked over and asked if he needed help. He said he needed a cab so I hailed a cab(line of cabs on the other side of hotel entrance), and got him settled into the cab. Blind guy reached into his pocket and gave me a 50 for the help, I asked if he knew what he gave me and he said 50 for your help, it was appreciated. I was kinda floored but took it...and waved it at the doorman as I headed back inside to my office...Best tip I ever got and I didn't even work there..lol

States that don't collect income tax prove that it works.
They just increase other taxes, such as property taxes and sales taxes. I thought no income tax in Washington state was cool, till I had to pay 12% sales taxes on everything including food. I never lived there. Just traveled there a lot.

It costs you nothing to be nice. More people should realize that.

I'm all in favor of eliminating the income tax for everyone and going to a consumer tax.
At least this option removes the people who have wiggled out of paying income tax - drug dealers and other criminals, people who "work under the table", etc. I don't believe there should be a consumer/sales tax on food ingredients that you have to prepare, but it should cover the ready to eat stuff (salad bars, hot bars, etc.).

Stopping taxing crap over and over again would be a great start.

Well sure - money has to come from somewhere. But this way everyone kicks in, not just people who don't have the wherewithal to hide income. In FL tourists kick in, hookers and drug dealers kick in, people who work for cash under the table kick in.

Democrats say they want to tax the rich, and a sales/consumption tax is a great way to do that, but Democrats are against that method of taxation because the greediest most acquisitive billionaires also fund their political campaigns.
