You're supposed to feel comfortable that "Barney" won't change to "Sluttina" while you're out of the room.

Learned that lesson. I was in the kitchen cooking & cleaning while my 3 year old was in the adjacent family room watching Noggin. I heard moaning, went into the family room and discovered my daughter got a hold of the remote and put on an R rated movie. I was stunned, grabbed the remote from her, quickly changed the channel back, and put the remote up higher. I will never forget her look at me and say, "But mom - they love each other!" I'm hoping she's forgotten what she saw!

well I suppose had she not left her pre-school aged kid in a room by himself for an hour she would have seen it... :dork:
Read my thread starter before you put your foot in your mouth. He was not in the room by himself! We left the room and it came back on. I did not see or hear any kind of warning. I just know that very little time elapsed before it went from Liittle Bear to Hoochie Whores!

There is a minute blue screen up saying Noggin will return tomorrow at 6 am. The N will start shortly.

Turn off the TV and read to your kids. :elaine:
some of us can't read to our kids for 8-10 hours of the day.
my 2 year old can say her ABC's and i'm convinced it's because of cookie monster's alphabet DVD (and we play with ABC fridge magnets).
so, IMHO, DVD's and appropriate TV *can* help a child's development!
that being said... there are certain programs we will not be watching. anyone see that 'oobi' show on noggin? what the hell is that!?

Isnt that a hand? :dork:
My kids loved Oobi. When T was about 18 months old my husband brought home a pair of Oobi eyes. Put them suckers on his hand, hid behind the couch and started "playing" Oobi. That kid was so excited he couldn't contain himself:lol:

i didn't say that he/she did. i was merely saying that the kiddos are usually up 8-10 hours out of the day... and i can't read to them for that long.

I have to agree with Wenchy on this. Reading to your child even for a few minutes every day has more value than anything ever produced for the boob tube. My son will come up to me and say "Daddy, read "Stinky Face" please." Let me tell you I stop what I am doing at the moment and read that book to him. Yeah he does watch Disney, but we limit the amount of time he spends glued to the chair, besides he is 3 now and loves his "playground" and chasing our dogs.

Too much TV exposure in children less than 3 has been linked with an increase in the risk of ADHD. There is nothing on TV that can teach my boy what I or my wife can't teach him.

Agreed. But at some point you are going to park them in front of the TV so you can clean house, make dinner or tend to other kids. And the irrefutable fact is that programming specifically designed and marketed to young children shouldn't turn into a hoochfest at a moment's notice.

I'm SO glad my kids are older and this crap is behind me. If I have to hear another word about winkies and noo-noos, I'm going to chew off my arm and spit the remains at someone.
