Kathy Hochul:
“I believe that we must reflect on whether the time for this particular institution, the Electoral College, has passed.
Now recall that the Constitution, as ratified, also contained provisions that we consider abhorrent, such as women and people of color being denied the fundamental right in a democracy.”
I’m gonna roast this bitchh, LFG
1. Our founders DID NOT ratify provisions to deny voting to women and minorities in the US Constitution.
“As I recall” you recall wrong, hoe. This is a lie, and I’m going with malice over ignorance.
2. Women and minorities actually did vote in some states/territories under the ninth and tenth amendments prior to the Civil War. I believe Colorado and Wyoming were two of them.
3. “Democracy” is written exactly zero times in the US Constitution, because
(a.) We aren’t one
(b.) Our founders had an aversion to the practice of direct democracy, as subjects in the 13 colonies, they lived through the abuses of the majority over in England firsthand.
4. The electoral college is enshrined in the US Constitution because we are a republic of 50 sovereign states, not one homogeneous blob.
5. Abolishing the electoral college requires a constitutional amendment, meaning 2/3s of congress and 3/4s of the states must all agree, before it is signed and becomes the law of the land.
