SILVER SPRING, Md. - Montgomery County Police are investigating reports of a man inside the Discovery building with a weapon and possibly explosives.
Police say a man walked into the lobby, reportedly carrying a weapon and what may be explosives.

SWAT teams are on their way to the building, which is located on Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring, a police spokesperson tells WTOP.

The building has been evacuated.

Due to police activity at the Discovery Building located on Georgia Ave ... reports of a single gunman with possible explosives inside ... Shelter in Place orders are being given for 1100 Wayne Ave and 8484 Georgia Ave for NOAA employees per the NOAA Homeland Security Director.


This is a situational awareness for 8403, 8455 Colesville and the SSMC campus not requiring Shelter in Place for these addresses.
