I ordered a Dell with XP earlier this week and when I never received a confirmation email or had my bank acct. debited I called. They had no record of my order although I printed the confirmation page.

Decided to run out yesterday and come home with something. Everything you buy now has vista.

I'll get used to it one day. :ohwell:
9 months andd I still hate it as much as day 1.

Vista's a piece of #### and nobody wants it. Even PC doesn't want it. :lmao::killingme:lmao:

Yeah Mike you could always run out and get a full copy of XP and put it on your Vista machine. I bought Vista when it was new, had it on my computer for a few days and got rid of it. Tried it again recently cause the new one has Vista. I WILL NEVER PUT VISTA on these machines again! In fact I am wiping out my new computer and puting XP on it. I hate Vista! :howdy:

Would THIS face lie?
Just for the record....I hate Vista too....How much of a problem is it to get and install XP? Do you completly wipe out Vista? Can you have 2 operating systems? Since I have had Vista, I haven't been able to print anything right and I've tried 3 printers....
What do i look for as far as Windows goes? What is the SP2 thing...What version? I really don't know too much about this but I do know I don't like Windows Vista....

To do it legally, you are going to have to buy a "retail" copy of Windows XP. Most likely the "professional" version if it's a work laptop. It's going to cost you around $250 - $300...

Computers sold with Windows on them have "OEM" copies of the operating system. These copies are tied to the machine and can't legally be put on another system...

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but you can get software from colleges (CSM, St. Mary's) for a discounted price. It may be a good idea to look into their Vista cost.

Oh I was going to do it legally....It is for my desktop and I just wanted to know which one to buy....I am kind of dumb about some of these things...What is the add-on version and what is the SP2 version...I've seen Windows XP for under $100.00 but is that what I really want..I want to fix my problem, not create another...

SP2 simply means "service pack 2," which is a roll-up of security fixes built in since it was first shipped as Windows XP. SP2 and SP3 (is it out?) etc are all free downloads from Microsoft...

You most likely need a "full" copy, not an "upgrade," which is significantly cheaper, but requires a "full" copy of a predecessor such as Windows 2000 in order to install it...

Chasey was correct that if you know of anyone going to UMD or the SOMD college, they can buy a copy dirt cheap in the campus book store. Same goes for MS Office...

Mikey does NOT like Windows Vista!!

Give it about 2 weeks, once it learns how you work it will free itself up (learning algorithm) and start to act snappy...

Testing at work we found you need at least 2GB of Ram... most of the machines we are deploying have 4GB in them so Vista is snappy after the inital 2 week learning curve it goes through.

Give it some time, it will come around for 'ya! :yay:

I hate the way it forces me to attach files. XP allowed me to see thumbnails of photo's, vista doesn't. I have to remember the file name or click "large icons" to see thumbnails.

Someone said vista was suppose to be more user friendly. Well if they survey me, I have news for them. :boo:

Your right, their is a lot of quirky-ness with it... I am still using XP at home and on my workstation at work. We have been working with Vista because when we get new machines in they have Vista so we have to ensure they assimilate into our domain.

What is the "forces to attach files" issue - I might be able to get some answers for you tomorrow...

I didn't mean it "forces" me to, I meant the way I'm required to go get the file. I miss the simple drop down menu's and being able to see the thumbnails. I do have 2 MB of RAM.
