Doctors Finally Get Real About Covid Hospitalizations Amid Omicron Spike

Throughout the pandemic, many observers, including this author, have noted that cases are not the correct metric to measure the impact of Covid. We have also questioned hospitalization and death numbers in an environment where every patient who arrives in an emergency room receives a test. Recently, Dr. Anthony Fauci partially vindicated our assertions. The diminutive mastermind behind the entire disastrous pandemic response finally said that the focus should be on hospitalizations, not cases. Of course, that was as the nation cruised past a million new cases a day and record case numbers were posted in the “good” states like New York.

[clip]

A Manhattan emergency room physician, Dr. Craig Spencer, echoed Delgado’s comments about exacerbating existing illnesses. “Today, it seemed like everyone had COVID. Like, so many. And yes, like before, there were some really short of breath and needing oxygen. But for most, COVID seemed to topple a delicate balance of an underlying illness. It’s making people really sick in a different way,” Spencer wrote on Twitter. No one at this facility required a ventilator. “Thankfully, the Covid patients aren’t as sick.”

An exacerbation of a chronic illness is not a Covid hospitalization. If a person with diabetes goes into diabetic ketoacidosis because of a viral infection, you treat the diabetic complication. Hospitals frequently see these complications in people with chronic conditions with influenza, pneumonia, and other acute illnesses. This phenomenon is not unique to Covid. However, it seems everyone has forgotten.

Delgado also noted the number of people with mild or no symptoms coming to the ER for testing because of the lack of testing in the community. This trend is a result of the panic created by public health leaders like Dr. Fauci over the last two years. Stockholm, Sweden, started testing only patients sick enough to be hospitalized with Covid symptoms in March of 2020. The age striation and risk tranching according to a few serious comorbidities have been evident since at least May of 2020. Public health leaders should be stressing that messaging now to relieve emergency rooms and ensure that those who need care can get it.

In a move that seems particularly smart given all of the stupid ones she has made previously, New York Governor Kathy Hochul ordered a more precise accounting of Covid hospitalizations. During a news conference on Monday, she announced, “Beginning tomorrow, we’re going to be asking all hospitals to break out for us how many people are being hospitalized because of COVID symptoms [and] how many people happen to be testing positive, just while they’re in there for other treatments.” After calls with hospital leaders around the state, she said that anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of Covid patients got identified through incidental testing.

No the phenomenon isn't forgotten, but ignored for Covid Bucks ... Medical facilities get 300 k per patients for covid

‘Mass Formation Psychosis’ Admittedly Used by Governments as Tool of Population Control

Dr. Robert Malone’s assertions about “mass formation psychosis” in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic are underscored by the fact that authorities in the UK admitted to using “totalitarian” methods of “mind control” to instill fear in the population.

And one of the aspects of that phenomenon is that the people that they identify as their leaders, the ones typically that come in and say you have this pain and I can solve it for you. I and I alone,” Malone further explained, “Then they will follow that person. It doesn’t matter whether they lied to them or whatever. The data is irrelevant.”

“We had all those conditions. If you remember back before 2019 everyone was complaining, the world doesn’t make sense and we are all isolated from each other.”

“Then this thing happened, and everyone focused on it,” stated Malone, noting, “That is how mass formation psychosis happens and that is what has happened here.”

Malone’s summary of how health authorities seized on the unifying threat of the COVID-19 pandemic and exaggerated its thread to create mass hysteria is backed up by leaked details of how the UK government manipulated its population during the early days of the pandemic.

As first revealed by author and journalist Laura Dodsworth, scientists in the UK working as advisors for the government admitted using what they now admit to be “unethical” and “totalitarian” methods of instilling fear in the population in order to control behaviour during the pandemic.

FACT FOCUS: Unfounded theory used to dismiss COVID measures

“The concept has no academic credibility,” Stephen Reicher, a social psychology professor at the University of St Andrews in the U.K., wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

The term also does not appear in the American Psychological Association’s Dictionary of Psychology.

“Psychosis” is a term that refers to conditions that involve some disconnect from reality. According to a National Institutes of Health estimate, about 3% of people experience some form of psychosis at some time in their lives.

Richard McNally, a professor of clinical psychology at Harvard University, wrote in an email that people who support COVID-19 vaccines and public health guidance are not delusional. Rather, they are “fully responsive to the arguments and evidence adduced by the relevant scientific experts.”

Health officials have found the COVID-19 vaccines to be safe and effective — especially in terms of protecting against serious illness.

The description of “mass formation psychosis” offered by Malone resembles discredited concepts, such as “mob mentality” and “group mind,” according to John Drury, a social psychologist at the University of Sussex in the U.K. who studies collective behavior. The ideas suggest that “when people form part of a psychological crowd they lose their identities and their self-control; they become suggestible, and primitive instinctive impulses predominate,” he said in an email.

That notion has been discredited by decades of research on crowd behavior, Drury said. “No respectable psychologist agrees with these ideas now,” he said.

Multiple experts told the AP that while there is evidence that groups can shape or influence one’s behaviors — and that people can and do believe falsehoods that are put forward by the leader of a group — those concepts do not involve the masses experiencing “psychosis” or “hypnosis.”

Steven Jay Lynn, a psychology professor at Binghamton University in New York, said Malone’s argument that a group can “literally become hypnotized and can be led anywhere” is premised on a myth about hypnosis.

Fauci, Walensky Mocked For Mixed Messages On Masks — At Hearing On Omicron

Committee Chair, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), asked at the beginning of the hearing that everyone keep their face masks on throughout — regardless of whether or not they were speaking.

The overall purpose of the hearing was to discuss the possible need for additional mask guidance in response to the rapid spread of the highly-infectious Omicron variant — toward that end, the CDC is said to be considering new recommendations advising people to opt for more effective face masks whenever possible.

According to a report from The Washington Post, the CDC is expected to update the guidance for those who can tolerate higher quality masks — such as the N-95 or KN-95 masks — to say that if they can wear them safely and consistently, they should do so.

Deaths From Omicron 91% Less Compared To Delta, Study Finds

The study, which was conducted by Kaiser Permanente Southern California but has not yet been peer-reviewed, also showed that people with Omicron infections are 74% less likely to need to be placed in the intensive care unit (ICU). And the study found a 53% reduction in risk of being hospitalized, said Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“The duration of hospital stays was approximately 70% shorter, with the median of stays being 1.5 days for Omicron, compared to about five days for Delta,” Walensky said on Wednesday. “Looking at all hospital admissions for Omicron, 90% of patients were expected to be discharged from the hospital in three days or less.”

But Walensky said we’re not out of the woods yet. “While we are seeing early evidence that Omicron is less severe than Delta, and that those infected are less likely to require hospitalization, it’s important to note that Omicron continues to be much more transmissible than Delta,” she said.

Omicron wave prompts media to rethink which data to report

“It's just a data disaster,” said Katherine Wu, staff writer who covers COVID-19 for The Atlantic magazine.

The number of case counts soared over the holidays, an expected development given the emergence of a variant more transmissible than its predecessors.

Yet these counts only reflect what is reported by health authorities. They do not include most people who test themselves at home, or are infected without even knowing about it. Holidays and weekends also lead to lags in reported cases.

If you could add all those numbers up — and you can't — case counts would likely be substantially higher.

For that reason, The Associated Press has recently told its editors and reporters to avoid emphasizing case counts in stories about the disease. That means, for example, no more stories focused solely on a particular country or state setting a one-day record for number of cases, because that claim has become unreliable.

Two Omicron Studies Are Fantastic News That Should End Mandates and Restrictions

For those under 50 who are otherwise healthy, the risk of severe illness and death was already vanishingly small. The seasonal flu’s generally quoted infection fatality rate (IFR) is 0.1%. According to Dr. Fauci, a pandemic flu may reach 0.2 or 0.3%. In a study that remains in preprint from Cathrine Axfors and Dr. John P.A. Ioannidis from Stanford, the age-adjusted IFR for COVID-19 in July 2021 was below the seasonal flu in every age group below 50.

Applying the 25% reduction in severity estimated in the South African study, and even the IFR for those between 50 and 59, and omicron looks more like a severe flu season.

Screen-Shot-2022-01-15-at-10.02.51-AM.png

Other estimates for the reduction in hospitalizations and death with omicron show even more significant reductions in severe disease. A CDC-funded preprint study from Kaiser Permanente studied over 50,000 patients who tested positive for omicron and more than 16,000 sick with delta between Nov. 30, 2021, and Jan. 1, 2022. Among cases first detected in outpatient settings, the analysis found:

  • Patients with omicron variant infections were roughly half as likely to have symptomatic hospital admissions.
  • The rate of ICU admissions after a positive outpatient test for omicron was 25% the rate for delta infections.
  • There was one death from omicron compared to 14 with delta during the study period, resulting in a 91% reduction in the risk of death.
  • Zero cases of omicron variant infection received mechanical ventilation, compared to 11 patients with delta variant infections, throughout follow-up.
  • The median duration of hospital stay was 3.4 (2.8-4.1) days shorter for hospitalized cases with omicron variant infections than hospitalized patients with delta variant infections. This is nearly a 70% reduction in the average length of stay.

I posted this tweet in another thread last night. The dems realize they are losing on this issue so they need to make it disappear so stop counting cases AND deaths, like some of us on here have been saying all along.

The Omicron Hypothesis, Part 1

"The Church must be all-powerful. You discover these horrors within institutions because predators find ways of hiding in plain sight." -Alex Gibney

We should still keep an eye out for overall health impact, including the frequency and severity of long haul symptoms. But the extremely good news is that the COVID-19 case count—not that it was ever measured correctly—has officially decoupled from the hospitalization and death counts. That's okay—sometimes, during changes in functional outcomes, we care more about precision in measurement than accuracy.

And by "officially" I don't mean that the WHO said so (though they might have…I haven't bothered to check because why would I?), but rather "look at the charts!" In fact, there are almost no deaths at all associated with the omicron variant! Of course, there will be some. There is no such thing as a respiratory infection that doesn't kill some of the frail elderly. But unless there is some facet of the omicron outbreak that we don't yet understand, this is all extremely good news. In fact, it's such good news that we should probably declare the pandemic over with and stop talking about vaccine mandates and passports altogether.

England Ends All COVID Passports, Mask Mandates, Work Restrictions

Now, since Israel has been the darling of vaccine advocates who don't care that the retrospective studies are performed by Pfizer investors who don't correct for risk or data censorship, let's start there. COVID-19 cases are out of control, and it's not a pandemic of the unvaccinated.

And it's not just Israel…

The normalized data from the United Kingdom shows the vaccinated suffering from COVID-19 around twice as much as the unvaccinated during the Winter wave:

In late December, it was reported that 97% of those hospitalized for omicron in a Delhi hospital were fully vaccinated.

Fact 1: In data from multiple sources around the world, omicron seems to have a strange affinity for the vaccinated, with overall odds ratios from nearly 2 to greater than 4.

Did we calculate efficacy numbers too soon?

Or was "efficacy" always a matter of omicron?

We'll come back to that…

6 Pack: Pfizer, Fauci press forward on 3 additional Omicron-specific mRNA shots

Anthony Fauci, the infamous federal bureaucrat and part time Big Pharma used car salesman, was quick to applaud Pfizer for starting the Omicron trials, despite the reality that this new shot will probably not receive clearance until the Omicron wave has completely subsided and there will no longer be any use for the therapy.

Applauding Pfizer, Anthony Fauci appeared on television Tuesday to rally members of his religious group in support of the company’s press release.

“What the company is trying to do … you’d want to protect people from breakthrough infections and you might want to boost them, it makes sense to think in terms of at least having ready an Omicron-specific boost,” Fauci started. “I think it’s prudent to at least prepare for the possibility that this may be a persistent variant that we have to face,” he added.

Not the best sales job. It seems that even Fauci is having a hard time justifying another monster cash grab for his friends at Pfizer.
Anyway, there you have it. Just 6 shots to stop the spread!

And to wrap this up, a quick reminder how much the narrative has changed:
