OMG. Have you ever seen pics of kids with bottle rot? :barf:
Yes. It is sad. Poor kids didn't have a chance.
Then they go to preschool and all the other kids make fun of them. Sad, isn't it.

I think most people use sippy cups because they are leak proof. We use a sippy cup for girl, and she's 21 mos. We tried non-leak proof ones, and she soon figured out it was great fun to pour out the drink and play with it. It's easier to use a leak-proof one until they are coordinated enough to use it without dropping/spilling/etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing sippy cups, they certainly have their uses. I have a whole collection of them in almost every variety known, so that each daycare child can have their own kind.

However, they are not functionally different than bottles, so, if a child is using a bottle instead of a sippy cup, who cares?

On the other hand, by the time a child is about 3 years old, he or she shouldn't need to be using sippy cups, they need to be using real cups. I admit, my children used them longer than they should have, but I've taken care of a lot of children in the meantime and I fully admit it was laziness on my part to let them have those cups as long as they did. And even my lazy azz didn't let them have sippy's passed about 3 1/2. But you've seen them, those kids in the store, 4 & 5 years old and still suking on those cups.

"shut up, kid. Here, stick this in your mouth." Worse than pacifiers, I swear.

I had a bottle until I was 4. I can remember my father used to tease me and I would hide it from him. Also sucked my thumb til I was 6 or so and drug around a stinky sock monkey named Herky...I used to wrap his tail around my nose while I sucked my thumb. I think I turned out quite well. :diva:

I think I need to go post in the the "my own teeth" thread now.

Come to think of it, when my brother was born, my sister and I were a little jealous....we were 5 and 7. We wanted bottles too.....so mom let us drink out of baby bottles. It only lasted a few days, and we got over it.

There are pictures of me sleeping in a box, with my baby blanket wrapped around me, and a bottle in my mouth (age 4) Damn, I was cute. My teeth are fine.

When my son was born my daughter was 7 years old. She asked me for a bottle. I didn't hesitate and gave it to her.

My sister is a successful businesswoman (I wanted to say executive, but that sounds snotty...what the hell) and she still sleeps with the fragments of her baby blanket. "Namo"

Potty training? My daughter was 3 and my son was trained at age 2...then he had a relapse, but that's a medical issue. They are all different.

So what?

T? Faith is adorable, and don't worry about the bottle. Just make sure she only gets a water bottle when she is going to bed or for a nap.

P.S. Treasure those naps...they will be gone soon.

My 4 year old is only 33 lbs and my 2 year old is only 23 lbs. They are perfectly healthy. Give it rest.

:yeahthat: My little one will be 6 in July and she weighs a whopping 38 pounds. And you know what? She's completely healthy and not considered underweight, malnourished, etc. She doesn't look sick or unhealthy either. (I call her a little pixie) Her doctor isn't worried at all. He said there's no reason to be!

I just caught this. No, he's not potty trained and it is driving me nuts. It is not from lack of trying. We've tried everything. He just has no interest whatsoever in using the potty. We have bought 3 different potty chairs. Hell, one of them is the Royal Throne. We make him sit on the potty which is not the clipon one on the toilet. All he does is flush the toilet. Ugh. :ohwell:
