Ostrich burgers

I think I'm going to :barf:. My mother just told me that she bought ostrich meat at Giant and is making my father ostrich burgers for dinner. WTH??? I thought she was joking, but she was as serious as a heart attack. :jameo:

I tried some ostrich steak several years ago. It's good, but nothing I would pay premium dollars for.

P.S. It does NOT taste like chicken.

Ostrich was a big deal a few years back. It was supposed to be the healthy alternative to beef. It went bust pretty much as people really didn't embrace ostrich like they hoped.

Oh yea, "Memphis" is in Tennessee and "West Memphis" is on the other side of the Mississippi River across the I-40 bridge in Arkansas.

I found that out after I posted. Hence the deletion. :lmao:

I could never bring myself to try that. Of course, my dad tells me how 'back in the day' they ate muskrat and chicken feet. :lmao:

It tastes like ground beef without the flavor of fat that you get with beef. It's okay, but I'd rather have a nice, juicy burger.

It has even less flavor than turkey burgers. Try to imagine a dry hamburger with absolutely no flavor at all.

Now - the *bunny* burger - that's something else.

Y'all are scaring me.

 Because we've tried it? I like low fat options for my protein and I love red meat. I've found venison and elk to be my favorites.

Dog in Korea, Horse in Panama, various raw sea creatures while in Pacific rim countries, Squirrel, groundhog, raccoon, rabbit, deer, bear, pigeon, quail, pheasant. If you're hungry you lean to eat first and then ask what it was.

If you can eat chicken and turkey, why not ostrich? It's just another bird.

Fudruckers in Alexandria sells an ostrich burger.
Ruby Tuesday has Bison burgers

I've never understood why it's OK for some folks to eat a cow or chicken but they freak out at the thought of eating some other animal

I got one, and it was NASTY! Then again, I can't say anything good about Ruby's hamburgers and will no longer order one.
