Owings, MD and Owings Mills, MD

Why does everyone get this confused? I got people from craigslist calling me for items that they think are in Owings Mills?

I get headhunters calling me about jobs in Owings Mills.

People are idiots.

On my first few Craigslist listings, I got many calls from people who lived 2 hours away from SoMD asking about $30 items; as soon as they figured out the drive they would say "nevermind" - of course!

So for my latest round of listings, I put in the location "Lexington Park, about 90 min S of Baltimore". And Craigslist now includes a handy-dandy, right-on-the-page Google map showing exactly where I am. How much easier can it be?

Not a bit. Still got the same dumb calls asking "So where are you?"

Well quit listing on craiglist.
List here. We all know that everyone who post here is super smart and excellent drivers.

a few years ago, one of my friends went to renew his drivers license. He was in Glen Burnie anyway and decided to stop in and get it done. Well, he surrendered his old licenseas required. The clerk informed him that his address was incorrect, that he lived in Owings Mills, not Owings...He commented that he found it a crime that Calvert County had been taking his property taxes all these years. The snarling uneducated apparent Baltimore dweller told him it was Carroll County not Calvert.....

I had a store clerk insist that Baltimore is closer to me than Annapolis. Turns out she thought Dunkirk and Dundalk were the same place. :killingme

I had a black woman call me. Didn't know where she was calling me from, but I later found it was from Baltimore. She called to inquire about my child bedroom set. I told her I was in Owings. I gave her my address and everything. She setup a time to come out and visit. She was going to use a friends truck and everything. Anyway she calls me on the way (could hear various highway noises and everything). She said she is lost and sorry she is late. She said she can't find me on her GPS. Then i told her I live in Owings MD..... Anyway there was a brief pause as she re-configured her GPS. Apparently a similar sounding street in Owings also exist within Owings Mills, MD. She was on that street looking for my house.

She was like OH, OH my god. that is like 80 miles away. Then she hung up and I never heard from here again ever....

Moved here 20 years ago, family still mixes up Prince Frederick, Frederick, and Fredericksburg.

Or give someone directions to Mechanicsville without specifying whether it is in MD or VA.

And then there is Ridgely,WV which is pretty much a borough of Cumberland,MD yet it is a 192mile drive from Ridgely,MD.

and not to be left out, Mechanicsville, PA and Hughesville, PA. :ohwell: sort of confuses my PA family when traveling :rolleyes:

:lol: I've done that a couple of times, Find something I want for sale and think it's 15 miles away but then find out it's actually in Richmond

Most people don't notice this unless they're hyper-observant like I am, but the names of those two places are very similar. I could be way off base here, but I would venture to say that this is the source of the confusion.
