Oysters and other things that don't taste good

the number one thing I can't stand the taste of is okra, I've had it fried, stewed, pickled, in gumbo..., I still taste the okra and it's disgusting. (and it looks like a big bowl of snot when it's stewed)
Thanks for the visual!

I'll second that.

I like my oysters raw with a little hot sauce, steamed with chopped onion and tomatoes, fried anyway and baked with spinach, bacon, onion and cheese. Crabs...well that just goes without saying. Snails (escargot) is delicious with sautéed white wine, butter and garlic. The one thing I will never eat, that will never pass between my lips, is...Scrapple!! Disgusting and vile meat that it is.

I've always liked scrapple, but when I tried real live home made scrapple from a bonafide old time St. Mary's family recipe I realized Rapa is a poor imitation of what scrapple can be.

It's not even really meat - just the stuff they throw in the trash after they've removed the meat from the pig. From Wiki:

Scrapple, also known by the Pennsylvania Dutch name panhaas or "pan rabbit," is traditionally a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and wheat flour, often buckwheat flour, and spices. The mush is formed into a semi-solid congealed loaf, and slices of the scrapple are then pan-fried before serving.

Yum yum :twitch:

mmmmmm. Sometimes I'll slice up a brick of scrapple and fry it all up for lunch. Like beer, it's not just for breakfast any more. :yay:

I've made a ton of scrapple over my lifetime of butchering hogs...and corn-meal mush ...and oatmeal mush..and head cheese..... There are quite a few ways to use up every last scrap of a hog. :elaine:

That's why I love Linda's Cafe and Ye Olde Towne Cafe. You can still get scrapple. Linda's even makes scrapple gravy. :yum:

My ex husband used to love it. I could never get past the fact of what it was made of. On the other hand...I love liver and onions, especially when its fried with bacon.

I know a bunch of people who don't like oysters, but I don't know anyone at all - not a single person - who doesn't like little piggies in a blanket.

I find them a little fatty and chewy myself.
