Today, my wife and I lost our jobs. In two weeks, we will be homeless—expecting our first child—with no support. This is the direct result of the dismantling of USAID over the past two weeks. Nearly 10,000 USAID staff, along with more than 51,000 Americans who work to fight poverty, hunger, and disease worldwide, are losing their livelihoods.
This isn’t just a political decision. It’s a human crisis that affects real people.
Without USAID, America is weaker. Destabilization will spread. Terrorism will thrive in desperate regions. Global health will decline. Pandemics will rise. And lives—millions of them—will be lost. All of this destruction comes from eliminating an agency that operated on just 0.6% of the U.S. budget—less than a single percent—yet played an outsized role in strengthening America’s global standing through diplomacy, aid, and stability.
Cruelty knows no boundaries anymore. I have never felt so lost, broken, or hopeless."
