Patuxent Park is this a nice area or the Ga-hetto?
Lot sizes are rather small, perhaps 1/6 acre, houses are small and cramped, the chain-link-fence look is popular, a high percentage of the people are short-timers, about a quarter of the people don't keep their yards very neat. So it's not quite Real Ga-hetto, but it's certainly not hoity-toity.

Bought a house in there when I first moved here (+20 years ago). Very well built & all have oak floors. Some idiot thought it would be a good idea to glue linoleum on mine. :ohwell:
They all have pretty much the same floor plan. The home where the owner lives in the house are well cared for, the ones rented out have a tendancy to get run down.

We looked at them when we were house hunting. I loved the houses themselves, like Aps said they seemed to be well built, but the neighborhood just didn't seem quite good enough. (the yard next door covered in 40oz bottles didn't help my first impression) Mind you, the neighborhood we've wound up in is just a small step up, but we're working on that.

I lived in Patuxent Park for about 15 years. It all depends on what part you live. Some places are not too hot but I loved living right on Saratoga. Nice and helpful people living on that street.

aps45819 I know your pain, If I can find pics of the house when we left and what it looks like now after the idiots moved in and did some "modifications" its just a shame. If he keeps going Lenny is going to have that whole road in brick fronted buildings :)

The neighbors are hit or miss. If the house is rented (especially section 8), they suck. In the last few years, a lot of the houses and have been fixed and sold, cashing out on the housing boom- everytime I turn around another one is up for sale. The "problems" can't afford to buy them, or afford the rental prices of the recently sold ones. IMO, it's a matter of time before the "problems" are relocated.

The Smart Hooker
The last time I came home to visit I couldn't believe the changes in Patuxent Park. About 20+ years ago my parents bought a house there. At the time is was a nice place to live. IMO it went down hill. But, that didn't stop myself and a few of my girlfriends from renting a house there after we got our "real jobs" after school. We NEVER had a problem while we were there. We lived on a nice quiet street. It was out dated of course but we didn't care. I moved away and came back for a visit awhile ago and couldn't believe how much it has changed. ALOT of renovations and it looks more decent from when I lived there.

But...I think it's like a few people said. Depends on what street you live on and your neighbors.

I live in PP on a quite street all homeowners, but the surrounding area is not so nice. The house you are looking at, needs some help. When they had open house the rain was pooring the upstairs room that was just added. The back has upper and lower deck with no support, you can see the roof line sagging. Not much yard, small in ground pool w/dome cover. Really not that impressed with it. Avg. house is selling for 180K, think it is over priced for what it really is. Just my thoughts, thanks for letting me share.

is the house I saw online. Looked nice, but im a long plane ride away.
I drove by this house not too long ago. It's gorgeous, but I believe it was the house next door that looked like complete crap. It was quite the contrast. I think (if I'm thinking of the right house), under the tree in the front yard is a little garden pond with a small "waterfall." Didn't go inside the house, but if the outside is any indication, the inside is probably pretty nice.

Can't speak for the neighborhood as I've never lived there, but I have family that lives there... one on Saratoga, actually. I've not heard him mention that he's had any problems.
