pedestrian being killed

first of all my prayers r with the family of mr.morgan. my concern however is with the negative statements that r being made by the officals and newspaper writers of st.marys county. i could've sworn pedestrians have the right a way no matter what. the fact that he had been drinking is irrelevant alot of people drink yet when the media dwells on them they do not state that. i pretty damn sure president george bush has a few drinks himself yet when he makes a decision does anyone dwell on the fact he made the decision based on a few drinks that he has had. the fact of the matter remains that st.mary's county makes it seem as if everytime someone steps out into the road or u think that they may have been drinking just hit them it's ok they should've been crossing the street or drinking no way. so the next time a kid crosses the street where they shouldn't hit them right it is ok isn't it st.mary's county seems to think so. a man was killed here come on now lets be real it was not his fault if u think it is then shut down all of the liquor stores in st.mary's county so that drunks don't wonder in the road ain't that what the county calls them. i personally call them people. but yet i wonder had he been a white man who had been drinking prior to taking a walk and a young 17 y/o black boy hits him would the so called facts had been the same. i personally feel like this is a prejudice situation prejudice to the fact mr.morgan had been drinking but then again who doesn't WOULD THEY HAVE RATHER FOR HIM TO BE DRINKING AND BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A VEHICLE OR DRINKING AND TAKING A WALK!!!!! yes i said walk because no one knows for sure he was on route to the liquor store seeing as how he could have been crossing the street to walk down towards lexington park. oh i 4got he hadn't had enough according to st.mary's county he was black so he was going back to the liquor store 4 more ain't that how us black people do!!!! i feel this is a racial situation had he been so badly slandered had he been a white man that been drinking and crossing the street and hit by a 17 y/o black boy. i bet speed would've his factor along w/ possibly under the influence of something i guarantee he wouldv'e been charged w/something. this incident just goes to show that there is a great deal of prejudice and lack of respect for blacks in st.mary's county. personally i'm going to stop acknowledging the fact i live here. when i go out of town and am asked where am i from i'm gonna say anywhere but here i'm very ashamed of what this county has become. hell i'm looking to move away. this county is a disgrace to black people!!!!! maybe there should be a law enforced stating that a black man should not take a walk after drinking a soda seeing how caffeine may play a part in his judgement to cross the street, especially if there's a soda machine on the other side he might be going back for a another!!!!! st. mary's county officials owe mr. morgan's family a public apology for the slanderous statements they made about him. R.I.P. MR.MORGAN

I am sorry for your loss. It's also very unfortunate Mr. Morgan chose to cross the road illegally and unexpectedly rather than at the marked cross walk that was provided just a bit down the road from where he chose to cross. I understand you are feeling hurt and anger. That's expected when one is faced with the death of someone else. However, don't blame the driver for not knowing a person would chose to walk out in front of him. Peace be with you.

I did not read the whole paragraph that was written, but how can you say that someone has the right of way, no matter what there condition, if they do not give the driver of the vehicle time to react to them stepping into the roadway? If I was stone cold sober, and I just walked into the path of a moving vehicle, how could the driver of the vehicle be held liable? isn't it the pedestrian who should look both ways before crossing?

Yep when people do not use the cross walks it is called jaywalking. I believe our county should be enforcing this law to prevent more accidents like this.

(a) In general.- If a pedestrian crosses a roadway at any point other than in a marked crosswalk or in an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, the pedestrian shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching on the roadway.

And my mother taught me to always look both ways before crossing the street. And as a little FYI (since you say you're not from Southern Maryland and all) you have to take drivers ed to get a license in Maryland, so we've probably all done so. :yay:
