I have only been back 3 days and everytime I drive by the Brusters Ice Cream joint there are 200 people in line for ice cream and cars all up and down the road because the parking lot is full.

WTF
?

...let's talk about your childhood.

Are you surprised and annoyed by this because your folks never let you set up an ice cream cone stand and, thus, it could be YOUR stand making a killing?

Did you see people mowed down at an ice cream stand as a child by some crazy behind the wheel and, therefore, you want the people to run away but they seem to be in quicksand?

Did you burn ants with a magnifying glass as a child and, thus, YOU want the people in line to run from you and you're simply trying to cry out a warning but can't get the words out?

Did boy get ice cream sticky all over the interior of the pick up and you simply want others to fear the ice cream as well?

Does ice cream come to you in your dreams, late at night and whisper in your ear' 'lick me' and you want all the ice cream for yourself?

That'll be $200, see you next week.

Breyers on sale at Giant for $1.99. Bought two containers yesterday.

Yeah, I did the same. I bought cones and that chocolate topping that hardens up after you pour it on....it was almost like those hand dipped cones but with better ice cream. My son loved it!

I am afraid you have missed the mark. Ice cream is great, ice cream may be one of the greatest food inventions of all time right behind SPAM, Countrytime leamonaide and Reeses Cups. What I am having a problem understanding is hundreds of unassumingly normal people are encircling a neon lit hut like it is the Ka'ba during the Hajj. Cars haphazardly parked quarter mile up each side of the road, the longing almost desperate look on the faces. Is Bruster lacing the stuff with crack?

Just wait until I open my toilet paper, milk, bread and water stand. It won't be steady, but once in a while...hoo boy!

I miss the old Swensen's. Whatever happened to all the old ice cream parlors?

Hell, why can't we get a Dairy Queen down here?

Anyway...I posted this on another thread, but it's just this thing in Southern Maryland that when some new place opens, everybody in the county seems to have to go there within the first couple of weeks. I remember the **Friendly's** in PF opening to crowds.

(The only restaurant in recent memory that didn't go through this is that new Japanese place next to JC Penneys. It got good crowds, but never a crush of visitors, especially compared to the unbelievable lines at CIP).

I only tried it that one time. I thought it was ok, but even Ben and Jerry's or Haagen-Daz is better - and cheaper.

Plus, besides the lines, they're not on the ball - if you have a multiple order, forget about getting it all at once - there's a good chance you'll be holding two melting cones while they work on your sundae. They need to improve their order processing.

It's something new and different.

You may have noticed that when anything new and different is put up around here the people - mostly desperate for something new and different - swarm like a mass of killer bees.

So how long should it be until the swarm starts dying out? I have never had Brusters and want to give it a shot....

But we need a DQ around here.....

Everybody just goes so they can read the backs of all the workers shirts and try to know them all. If you sing off key-Treat yourself??

We drove by around 6:00 last night and there weren't too many people, but then went we drove by around 8:00 it was packed. So, get there early to avoid the crowd I guess.

Bert's used to be fabulous when I first moved here 11 years ago. But when the new management took over (from New York, I hear), the ice cream deteriorated in quality fast! I think the lack of competition is what keeps their business.

In fact, I grew up in Philly and we had what was called "Ice Milk". It was cheaper in quality than ice cream but sold for the same price.

I believe Bert sells the "ice milk" instead of ice cream and is expensive! I haven't gone there in years...I miss the old Bert's.

I welcome any competition to Bert's.

I go to Rita's for the custard. It's the best!

Bert's was so awesome in it's early years. I remember before they built the addition and the outside was illuminated with those yellow bulbs.

But, Bob Lou's (sp?) in Waldorf was the best. Ahhh, the memories!

BTW Pete, when I drove by Bruster's this afternoon around 3:00 they weren't crowded. It looked to be about 6 people waiting outside.
