When is your next doctor's appointment and do they allow camera flashes in the office?

Ok then you have no idea how humilating it is for little kids to moo at you, and chair breaking, and people laughing and pointing at you. Going out to restarants and not being able to fit into booths, ordering a dessert and having the waiter comment that you don't need that. It didn't help me when I was obese like that in fact it made it worse having to face that stuff.

That doesn't help obese people lose weight it actually makes it worse because they start feeling worse about themselves and eat more to bury the pain of being humilated.

I am not pointing fingers at you and I apologize if it sounds like that, but I know for a fact that having to face the number on the scale and not running from it is the hardest thing in life to do.

I have a business partner who went to trainer and everyday she made him get on the scales, just to motivate him. It was kind of like accountability... But there is a difference, I know! Congrats for you though. I am sure that took alot of discipline on your part..

Weight and balance are important on any plane, even 737's. What you do not see is the carts of baggage and cargo that goes on those things. I saw somewhere that the standard weight used to calculate weight and balance info is like 150lbs per person. I may be wrong but I think using a SWAG of 150lbs per person is wrong. Say the average weight of the per person is actually 190, 40lbs higher than the old standard. That means there is an error of 8,000lbs for a passenger load of 200 people or 4 TONS. this can throw the balance off, cause errors in take off speed, landing length, fuel burn rate and so on. I would much rather have to stand on a scale and let someone see how much I weigh and be embarassed than to have them scrubbing my DNA off the runway.

:bawl: Ok, since it is so they don't have to scrap people off the runway, I'll get on the scale, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Ken,

I'm sure people will just lie about their weight, maybe say what their driver's license says.

Come on...

It's not like you're going to stand up on a scale that everyone in line behind you can see, or if some counter-wart with a clipboard is going to be yelling, "HEY BERT! WE GOT ANOTHER 300 POUNDER OUT HERE!!!"

Unless it's indiscrete, it's a matter of safety.

And anyone who objects is just a hypersensitive wuss.

I still fight the habits everyday. Food was my drug of choice.

 I was thinking that it would be an automated system, you step on a plate and the weight goes into a computer. No fuss, no muss, and no one has to know.

Ok, that was a sexist comment.

Men will hop right on the scale, no biggie, for a women it is really different.

Men  They just don't understand.

Like the man says it's important. As a former flyer and instructor on aircraft weight and balance, I can tell you that weight distribution and overall weight effects the center of gravity of an aircraft. We used a basic 200lbs per person and weighed all cargo. If we hauled passengers, each was accounted for. Fuel also plays an important part. It moves an aircrafts cg forward or aft. So many factors are figured in. As far as this becoming a factor in future passenger air travel..... The FAA could get involved and make a law requiring the weighing of each passenger. Who knows.

Now that's an idea. I don't think that it would be right to make people get on a scale with an "audience." But I also don't think it's fair to put 200 lives at risk because someone doesn't want to get on the scale.

That could work, and have it saved to a system. When the max weight for the plane is hit, then no more passengers. Nothing to designate which weight belongs to which person.

But the government would never do that, that would make sense.

I never even questioned for one solitary second that it would be any other way.

Did you really think that you were going to be in a line where some guy was standing there with a scale going, "212 pounds, NEXT! 185 NEXT! 310! Hey everyone, lookit this guy! Whatta fatass! NEXT! 143! NEXT!"

I really don't think it'll get that critical, as far as the airlines are concerned. I mean they would have to put all the people 200 lbs and over all the way in the back of the plane and all the lightweights up front to have that much of an affect on the aircrafts cg (center of gravity). Can't see them going crazy and weighing everyone.

That is exactly what I pictured. and somebody like ceo would be holding the clip board.
