WMAL interviewed two former Blackhawk pilots familiar with flying around DC. They talked about helicopter flight corridors 3 and 4, said that it could be a possibility that the Blackhawk crew wasn't aware that Runway 33 was active. Runway 1 is the active runway the majority of the time. They could have been looking right instead of left for approaching aircraft.

One would think that they would have been informed upon obtaining clearance to enter the Class B airspace. Sure would like to see a transcript of all communications, both tower and TRACON.

It will be interesting to the see risk management assessment DD 2977 done for that training.
